Government and Opposition parties are gearing up for a parliamentary showdown starting October 17th when the 3.2 trillion baht national budget bill for 2020 fiscal year is due for deliberation by the lower house.

Future Forward party spokesperson, Ms. Pannika Wanich, said today (Monday) that the party has been allocated six hours for the debate, instead of three and a half as earlier set, which means that more of the party’s MPs will take the floor to grill the government over its spending plans.

She said, however, that the party will place most importance on substance and not on the number of speakers. She added that she expects the planning of which MPs will speak, and on which issues, will be concluded at a meeting of opposition whips tomorrow.

The opposition can debate all they want, wont make a blind bit of difference.

Prayut and his cronies will just go ahead and do what they want.

Exactly the whole of their governance is a farce, like most other things here.

All pretend.

But, they can't seem to admit it and would rather play dress up in their fancy uniforms and take photos for the media.

Right, Colin (above).

And this in the week when the 1973 struggle for democracy is being remembered (by some). Interesting that we are not allowed to comment on that. Says it all, doesn't it? No pretence even attempted!

It will be nice to hear opposing voices for a change.  Will it change anything?  Perhaps not in the near term.

Yes will be nice to hear but as long as the government controls a majority the opposition is toothless. So nothing with this this is how it should work debate and so on.

Still will be nice to see if the opposition has something useful to say. Maybe some of future forwards people can become more known and get more votes next time. We can only hope.

But its the same all over the world unless the opposition has the votes the party in control will listen and then do as they please. That is the reward of having a majority. Still the process is good otherwise there is totally no way to keep the ruling party on its toes. Plus if something is really bad the populace might be swayed by a debate to go to streets. But to expect a party that has enough votes to change when there is not enough pressure on them is foolish.

Correct they probably will go ahead with whatever they want, but while the opposition has a voice maybe some of the truth about what's going on will filter down to street level and Thais can start to make judgments of their own about who to vote for next time around.

I've said this several times in the past, but the ONLY thing that matters is that the leader of the government has been endorsed. And there is only one endorsement that matters.

EVERYTHING ELSE is theater. Opposition, Future Forward Party, Past Backward Party, debates, all of it. It's all meaningless theater.

All Thai people need to accept the government and allow it to Move Thailand Forward ????????

Haha. This government move the country forward? They have had 5 years and have not even slightly moved the needle.

Which parallel universe are you living in?

The Opposition are pussycats. They will be squashed like flies.

Why aren't they out knocking down the doors of the media to get their message out about their budget proposals and how they would improve the country? Too busy at the trough I suspect.

Even Thanathorn seems to spend his time grandstanding rather than staying at home and pushing opposition policies on road safety, health, education, corruption and domestic matters.

The opposition have lost the plot. Perhaps because there has never been an opposition before and they don't know what to do.

The Thais are already making their own Judgments, and have been for the last Year or so.

Unfortunately that's not what transpired at the toll booths only 7 months ago, I'm talking about enough of an opposition turn-out that will rid Thailand of this dictatorship!
