webfact
The carnage continues: 554 dead this month, year to date 11,462 Picture: Daily News Daily News continued their campaign to highlight the appalling carnage on the Thai roads that are known for being some of the most deadly in the world. They said that fatalities at the scene of accidents on Monday claimed the lives of 21 people. They caution that these are just those that die at the scene - in reality when hospital deaths and all regions report their stats the figures are much higher. It is thought that between 24,000 and 26,000 die annually on the Thai roads, notes Thaivisa. So far in October 554 have died at the scene of accidents. The total for the year nationwide is 11,462. Picture: Daily News Figures are reported every day by Daily News who highlighted the need to be vigilant at U-turns in their story about an air-conditioned bus on Route 29 that collided with the back of a container truck. Picture: Daily News Seven passengers on the bus were injured in the accident on Pahonyothin Road near the Kesri 5 housing estate in Klong 1, Klong Luang district north of Bangkok. The truck driver was trying to execute a U-turn at the time. seajae
they simply refuse to recognize that if the made the police enforce the current road rules this figure would drop, they also need to purchase cars instead if pick ups(bet someone is making a fortune in kick backs on that one) so that they can patrol the roads instead of sitting in the offices. Road bikes would also be a good idea but again this would be too much to expect from any thai govt or the police force. Much easier to make up committees to think up BS ideas & write/complain about the many deaths than to actually do what is needed
Cadbury
A national tragedy! The buck stops with no one for all this carnage. Not the Prime Minister, not the Transport Minister and not the police. No one is accountable; sadly it just happens and is accepted as part of Thai life and death. Politicians should stand in shame but they don't care, they are fully protected with their police escorts.

Orton Rd
They cannot even tell the truth about road deaths, if you die in an ambulance on the way to Hospital or a week later after getting there you are a traffic fatality, not an injury. RichardColeman
Quick look at some internet data for deaths annually on the road per 100,000 of population. UK - 3.1, Thailand - 32.7 ! Personally I think that 32.7 is low
djayz
Never mind, according to some fellow TV members, we falang are just "uneducated and ignorant" - and all this is "local culture". Therefore, we should embrace and accept it.
LoS itaint
Lack of access to education and therefore poor knowledge are the main factors behind a majority of the avoidable fatalities. A high percentage of Thais are either unskilled, on low incomes or unemployed. This means that generation after generation suffer from from their parents and they in turn are poorly educated. The Government have gradually introduced new rules and regulations into the lol Thai Highway Code lol but the police either are not aware of them or just do not care about implementing them. Jimbo2014
Beyond insane! - its MAD MAX fury road out there. Wild insane drivers going 150 cutting 3 lanes no indicator and never a siren of law enforcement. Bits and pieces hanging from the rearvision mirror wont save someone from stupid driving nor the other lives they endanger.

Eligius
If anyone wants to know what the Thai faux-elite REALLY think of their fellow Thais (the serfs), just look at what they have doggedly and consistently and persistently NOT done, decade after decade after decade, to stop the slaughter of Thais on the roads. This is the highest proof (if proof were needed) that the 'elected' leaders of the land DO NOT CARE A WHIT ABOUT THAIS! THE SERFS' TINY AND GROVELLING LITTLE LIVES ARE MEANINGLESS AND WORTHLESS IN THE EYES OF THE 'ELITE'.

grumpy 4680
One cannot entirely blame the police for what's happening on Thailand's roads. its the Thai poor mentality that's the problem, 1 They cannot identify a Hazard in front of them, and begin to slow before reaching it. 2 They want to go where they are going regardless of other road user's. 3 inpatient. 4 cannot drive within roadlines. 5 Overtake anywhere. 6 Not sure what the Brake pedals for. 7 And this list could go on and on. ylmiri
May be I am wrong. If a large number of top people (high government officials, top big influential businessmen and families ) died in accidents it would make the government want to do something about the situation. If ordinary people like you and me we are nothing in their eyes.
