webfact
Bangkok urges no littering of the Chao Phraya River, promoting cultural heritage BANGKOK(NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has geared up its efforts to restore clean water to the Chao Phraya River by urging riverside residents to refrain from littering, promoting the nomination of the river as a part of the cultural heritage. The Bangkok Metropolitan Council and related agencies have launched a campaign among residents of the Chao Phraya River banks in Bangkok, from Kudi Chin to Wat Kanlayanamit, offering them Rak Chao Phraya stickers, encouraging them to help conserve the river known literally by its name as the River of Lives by refraining from littering or discharging waste into the river. A Bangkok Metropolitan Council member Paitoon Sinlarat said today that this was the third visit to riverside communities on the Thonburi side of the river from Memorial Bridge to Wat Kanlayanamit Temple along a 1-kilometer long section of the riverside, after previous visits to the Wang Lang and Pak Khlong Talat neighborhoods, signifying the initiation of cooperation from various agencies and the general public to conserve the Chao Phraya River, which has served as a major water transport artery through Bangkok and the Central region since the distant past, influencing the livelihoods of many. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is asking the general public and all sectors of the community to help restore the natural clarity of the Chao Phraya River, which will help with the nomination of the Chao Phraya River as a global cultural heritage site, following the nomination of Chao Phraya River to the World Monuments Fund’s 2018 World Monuments Watch. -- © Copyright NNT 2019-10-16 Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking Thailand news and visa info
RotBenz8888
They'll have to put up a 3m high fence with barbed wire and guards with machine guns along the whole river to protect from litter.
saigonsunset
And yet during Loy Krathong they throw in tens of thousends of Krathongs made mostly of Styrofoam and plastic ... talking about cultual heritage. RJRS1301
Urges? Why not pass legislation, and ensure that the legislation is enforced and applied. Begin by cleaning it up first, increase garbage/waste disposal collection, divert raw sewerage flowing into the river. Opps just cleaned by rose coloured glasses, they are back to sludge brown
Jimbo2014
Unless they take serious measures such as harsh fines, penalties and other measures the situation will remain the same. Thats a given. Every other country does these things and sees results. Boggles the mind.
