Union urges caution on high-speed rail contract

Members of the State Railway Workers’ Union of Thailand led by Sawit Kaewvarn of the State Enterprise Workers Relation Confederation were at the government complaint centre on Wednesday (October 16) demanding cautious appraisal of a contract to build a high-speed railway linking the country’s three main airports.

Phuket jet-ski operators warned after Chinese tourists dangerously ‘buzzed’

PHUKET:-- The Phuket Marine Office has issued a warning for all jet-ski rental operators on the island to ensure their jet-skis are operated safely after one operator and his staffer were charged and fined for the unlicensed staffer driving an illegal, unregistered, and hence uninsured, jet-ski dangerously close to tourists swimming at a beach at Koh Khai Nok, east of Phuket.

Dept pushes for re-start of talks on FTA pact with EU

The Department of International Trade Negotiations (DTN) are discussing with stakeholders on reviving the Thai-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations, planning to submit a proposal to the International Economic Policy Committee (IEPC) and the Cabinet for consideration in November, said Auramon Supthaweethum, the department's director.

Convicted MP Nawat ordered to renounce official status

The Constitutional Court today ordered Nawat Tohcharoensuk, the Pheu Thai MP for Khon Kaen, to renounce his status as a member of parliament, after being sentenced to death for masterminding a murder by Khon Kaen criminal court.

Anti-narcotics police seize ฿15 million cash and uncover huge money laundering operation

In multiple raids in Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi provinces yesterday, narcotic suppression officials seized about 15 million baht in cash and many valuables. They also uncovered several bank accounts, allegedly detailing drug money transfers totalling more than one billion baht.

Eight elephant carcasses pose risk to water quality in reservoir

Khao Yai national park officials are set to take a boat upstream, from their station at Khun Dan Prakan Chon reservoir to Khlong Ton Sai, to scatter anti-pollution chemicals over the carcasses of eight elephants trapped among boulders after water in the creek began to smell foul.

Three red-shirt leaders ordered to pay ฿21 million to victims of arson attacks in 2010

Thailand’s Supreme Court has upheld three Appeals Court verdicts holding three red-shirt leaders accountable for the torching of commercial buildings, including the Centre One shopping mall and Dok Ya building, by red-shirt followers protesting against the government of then Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on May 19th, 2010 in the vicinity of Victory Monument in Bangkok. The court, however, reduced the amount of compensation they must pay from about 30 million to 21 million baht.

SEOUL (Reuters) - Aides to Kim Jong Un are convinced the North Korean leader plans "a great operation", state media said on Wednesday in a report that included lavish descriptions and images of the leader riding a white horse up North Korea's most sacred mountain.
