BANGKOK (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - A Thai trafficker was sentenced to a record 374 years in jail for child trafficking in a ruling that lawyers say will send a deterrent to other criminals.

Emergency decree on King’s bodyguard units passes Parliamentary vote

The emergency decree on the King’s bodyguard was passed by parliament today with 376 votes in favour, 70 against and 2 abstentions. The decree is related to transfers and budget allocation, which will now come under His Majesty the King’s direct control.

Mystery surrounds security guard found dead in his Phuket room

The security guard of a hotel in Nai Yang, northern Phuket, 52 year old Yingyot Butsabong, from Maha Sarakham province, was found dead yesterday (October 16) in his room. Police remain mystified how the man came to grief.

Seripisut rails against budget bill, challenging its legitimacy

Charter Court rules General Prayut’s premiership legal because he is not an ‘other state official’

General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s premiership is legal under Sections 160 (6) and 98 (15) of the Constitution after the nine-member Constitution Court ruled that he is not an “other state official” (a formal technical description in Thailand) and is, therefore, qualified to hold the post of Prime Minister.

Rising number of Indian tourists seen as promising
