Khao Yai activists Khemthong calls off hunger strike

Dekrakpha conservation group activist Khemthong Morat who went on hunger strike on October 11 to call for the demolition of the existing visitor service centre in Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima on the grounds that it obstructs the elephants’ natural path, ended his protest yesterday (October 17) after the director general of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation ordered that the problem be resolved by the end of the month.

A foreign man who threatened staff with a knife and stole money from a Government Savings Bank (Omsin) exchange booth in Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, has been arrested within 48 hours of committing the crime.

PHUKET: Phuket Immigration today confirmed that foreigners applying for a 12-month permit to stay on a Non-Immigrant O-A visa – often referred to as the “retirement visa” – can still use the option of combining a bank balance with a monthly income in order to satisfy the financial requirement for the application.

SRT to halt legal move against Hopewell

Nitithorn Lamleur, a lawyer acting on behalf of State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said today (October 18) that he had been assigned by Transport Minister Saksyam Chidchob to file a case against Hopewell at the Civil Court as SRT had discovered that Hopewell's elevated highway and rail line project might have violated the Announcement of the National Executive Council No 281, which requires foreign companies to be qualified and approved by the Cabinet before conducting business in Thailand.
