RATCHABURI (NNT) - Moving on to the issue of foul water in Ratchaburi City, which has long been an issue faced by villagers, especially in the rainy season when waste water would flow into the Mae Khlong river. Villagers and conservationists in Ratchaburi have made complaints to local MPs, who have forwarded the issue to the Wastewater Management Authority which promised to work with the municipality to solve the problem over the past 15 years.

During a visit to Ratchaburi City Municipality’s water treatment facility in Khu Bua district by the Wastewater Management Authority’s (WMA) Director General Chira Wongburana, the WMA chief found the water treatment facility is not working at maximum efficiency, leaving some untreated water to flow into Mae Khlong river at Khlong Farang and Khlong Khang Wat Chong Lom canals, while the water treatment facility at Rachanokroh bridge often fails to function.

A discussion was held, in which the WMA agreed to make surveys, renovate, and repair the existing water treatment system for the city, and expand the sewage network to cover the ring road surrounding the city, as well as allocate budget and personnel to manage waste water treatment with the city municipality for 15 years.

Ratchaburi City Municipality has agreed to support the costs involved. The WMA will cover the costs in the first year of operations by itself should the municipality be unable to provide support. The agreement requires the municipality to pay the costs in the 2nd to 4th year. Both organizations will split the cost equally after the 5th year should the municipality fail to find suficient funding.
