CHIANG MAI (NNT) - Irrigation Office 1 has inspected Mae Kuang Udom Thara Dam following a 4.1-magnitude earthquake in Doi Saket district of Chiang Mai. It was found that the dam is still safe and not affected by the earthquake.

Mr Suphamit Kritsanamit, Head of the Dam Safety Management Division, Irrigation Office 1, and officials of Mae Kuang Udom Thara Dam, Doi Saket district, Chiang Mai province, jointly inspected the dam after the 4.1 magnitude earthquake on the night of October 18, 2019, in Doi Saket district which is close to Mae Kuang Udom Thara Dam. It was found that the dam remained unaffected by the earthquake.

The Dam Safety Management Division, Irrigation Office 1, has examined the integrity of the dam each day in order to establish confidence among the public. The dam was designed to accommodate up to a 7 magnitude earthquake. Tourists have continued to visit the Mae Kuang Dam especially to see and cross the only pair of suspension bridges in Chiang Mai, which remain strong.
