The wife is Thai and we live in London but do have a house in Ranong, near Chumphon. It looks like Koh Samet will be the best bet for a few days. Any recommendations for a beach resort/hotel? Which is the best beach to stay at? Many thanks Sean Depends what you want. Secluded or do you need to be nightlife? Bit of both? Taxis are expensive so if you want to move around motorbike rental is your best bet. Ao Phrao is nice but expensive and it's a steep walk out of there and back in if your not taking taxis. Tubtim or Samed Villa puts you in a decent location but not isolated. Forget Saikaew beach.
Postmaster
Don't forget your Insect Repellant if you travel to the Islands. Mossies much more prevelant there.

I just highlighted it. The system did the rest. I know it wasn't you but 'kingofthemountain'. No idea why your name got attached to the quote! scubascuba3
Koh Larn is massively over rated. They dump all the chinese there. I'd rather spend time on Pattaya, Jomtien or Bang Saray beachKoh Samet or Koh Chang are good island choices
camble
If you really want an escape, try Koh Kood Otherwise, Koh Chang
