Rimmer
Confusing traffic at Nongprue-Khao Mai Kaew intersection causes concern PATTAYA:-- Problems for commuters have arisen in Khao Maikaew due to unclear traffic lines at the Highway 3240 (Chaiyapornwithi) junction with Rural Road 4095, and at Pong Interchange where people are making quick U-turns to get onto the overpass. Also, some commuters suddenly turn right to get onto Highway 36 after crossing the bridge. Residents using these roads say these problems regularly cause accidents and annoyance. Banglamung District Chief Amnart Charoensri visited the area with his team and predicted the problems would be easy to solve. He instructed Banglamung Highway Dept to start by erasing the yellow dashed lines on the roads that are causing confusion, and install a stop sign on Highway 3240 from Khao Maikaew to turn right to Nongprue. New, correct traffic lines can be painted next week. The problem at Pong Interchange would be fixed by having the Chonburi Highway Dept. install traffic posts to keep people from making U-turns there. A more permanent solution could be made in the middle of next year. In the meantime, surveys will be conducted to find the best long term solutions, followed by budget proposals to carry out plans determined by the surveys. If the budget is approved, work will begin in April 2020. -- PATTAYA MAIL 2019-10-22--
Justgrazing
That's a target rich environment of power poles to get headbutted by a pickup when the inevitable confusion arrives ..

It has to do with that people can´t follow normal traffic rules. That´s not confusing, it´s stupid.

For a nation of drivers who don't look beyond the back of the car in-front of them whilst driving, disobey road rules, don't look in their mirrors, don't use their indicators properly, don't give-way and block junctions, shoot at other drivers who dared to overtake them, don't stop after causing an accident, etc, etc, erasing yellow lines and painting new ones next week is not going to make a blind bit of difference. Until the police start policing, and the government start governing, there's little hope of reducing the daily slaughter on the roads.

Cake Monster
I use this road nearly every day, and the Photo is taken from the KMK side of the Bridge. YOU DO NOT TURN RIGHT AT THIS BRIDGE FOR NONGPRUE, YOU GO STRAIGHT OVER IT ??????? STOP SIGN ???? If the Photo were from the other side of the Bridge, the Photographer would be hard pushed to find a time when here is not a continuous stream of traffic ( Inc large Trucks ) U-Turning directly at the bottom of the slope on the Bridge to get onto the 36 Route heading North. This Bridge are is probably one of he most Dangerous places that I experience regularly as a driver. The only solution is to place Concrete and Steel barriers down the center of the Road for at least 500 Meters on both sides of the Bridge on 3240 Route. Yesterday, they erected Plastic dividers for 30 M along the KMK side of the bridge. My guess is that they will only last a week before being completely destroyed, as previously. All this has been done before, and it didn,t work then, They even put up signs with a 2,000 Baht fine for u-turning . Did it make any difference, was it Policed. You bet it never did make any difference. Drivers beware. This is a really bad place ( and watch for the Traffic coming out from the side Soi by the Familymart 100 M past bridge on KMK side ). It seemed the whole force was out on Railway road Pattaya yesterday - I reckon about 25 situated at a crossroad so they got a four way split and caused maximum disruption. When will they learn that these stick-ups do nothing to lower the daily death toll and is only about revenue raising.

This junction is another example of an old Thai road, built on the cheap, where they have not invested to improve upon. Hwy 36 is full of junctions where a U-turn is forced, and let's face facts, Thais don't believe in going out of their way when a dangerous alternative exists. If one comes from Pong heading West you can't get directly onto Hwy36 to go North West. (where I live). The junction for 36/331 is similarly limited forcing U-turns. no cloverleaf.
