Jonathan Fairfield
German man arrested in Chonburi for allegedly dumping woman’s body in canal Image: INN Immigration Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a German man in connection with the death of a German woman who was found dead in Chonburi province. Immigration Police Commissioner Lt Col Sompong Chingduang identified the dead woman as 77-year-old Margund Schaefer, who is understood to have ran a beer bar in Pattaya with the arrested man. Police began their investigation after being contacted by German authorities who in turn were contacted by family members who had lost contact with Ms Schaefer. As part of that investigation, police tracked down the 52 year old German man, identified only as Mr Richard, after discovering his visa had expired in June 2017. Police later discovered the man has charges in his native Germany for deception and fraud after swindling elderly women out of more than 6,000 Euros. The German man’s Thai girlfriend told police that Ms Schaefer died after falling in the bathroom in January. She said the German man put Ms Schaefer’s body in a makeshift coffin, loaded it onto the sidecar of a borrowed motorbike and dumped it in a canal in the Saensuk area of Chonburi. The girlfriend also told police that the German man had access to Ms Schaefer’s pension money, which he had been using for his day to day expenses. Police said Ms Schaefer’s body was found on 12 January this year. A warrant was then issued for the German man who was eventually arrested at a rented house in October on 18 October. The German man denies any involvement. Immigration Police Commissioner Lt Col Sompong said the results of DNA tests will help to confirm how Ms Schaefer died. The investigation continues. He´s toast and long gone. No more using granny´s pay check for this dude. Not saying it isn´t true, because all the trash seems to find it´s way to Thailand. We don´t need more! Better just put this one in a coffin too, and send him one way over the Pacific Ocean.

The immigration should make an internet site where all people with long time overstay are listed with photos. Reward for reporting one to the immigration could be 5000 Baht. I guess the problem with overstayers would be solved pretty soon.

Roel
This is what it says in the German newspaper Bild (I translated from German): In Thailand is a German national (55) arrested. The man allegedly dumped the corpse of a 77-year old in a canal. This was announced by Thai police in Bangkok on Tuesday. Margund Schäfer and Richard Stanislaus ran a bar together in Pattaya. They also shared a house where the lived together with Stanislaus' Thai girlfriend. After family members reported that they could no longer get in touch with Schäfer the Thai police, following a request from German authorities, started to search for her. Stanislaus and his girlfriend were interrogated, because his visum had expired two years ago. Stanislaus' girlfriend told the police that he had lived partially on Schäfer's pension money. In Germany the 55-year old, who's last known place of residence is Timmendorfer Strand (Schleswig-Holstein), is wanted by the police on an outstanding arrest warrant. According to Thai authorities he is charged with multiple cases of credit card fraud. Apparently the victims were elderly women. According to the couple Margund Schäfer died in January after a fall in the bathroom. Stanislaus then sank the lifeless body in a wooden case in a canal. The body was identified through a DNA-test and dental records. "We found out that Mr. Stanislaus and Mrs. Schäfer opened a beer bar together, but business was not going well. This resulted in arguments", said investigator Sompong Chingduang during a press conference. The investigator: "According to a witness statement after the altercation the victim went to the bathroom to have a shower. But whether or not the quarrel resulted in murder, we can not say at this moment of time". Whether it really was an accident, or murder should now been brought to light by the medical examination.
