A 75-year-old man has been arrested after landing at Melbourne Airport on historic child sex allegations dating back to the 1970s and '80s.

The man, who lives in Thailand, is accused of abuse in Maryborough, Castlemaine and East Melbourne between 1975 and 1983.

Police arrested the man when he landed in Melbourne on Tuesday.

He was interviewed by police and faces five charges.

Accidentally by not knowing the victim is not of adult age.

Or you download in bulk and don't know what it is.....You can download say 1.000 Scifi books in one zip file. If there is one other file between you wouldn't know it.

 knowingly possessing child abuse material.
how do you accidentally possess it and who decides?

If it was on your computer you'd have no idea who downloaded it there. The FBI in America is suspected of doing this to get a Korean(chinese) to spy or go to jail.  I'd want to see more than a couple pictures to vote guilty, you don't know what is on your PC.

That's all irrelevant to the OP. Downloading books didn't happen back then, far as I remember.

It answers a question asked earlier in the thread. With just 9 posts so far it should not be too difficult to follow along.

Not enough info in the linked article to make any assumptions as to any of the charges.

Indecency with a male- was homosexual activity illegal back then and the charge isn't valid today? From the info given, who knows? It doesn't say with a minor.

Did you even read the linked story? The one that mentions possessing child pornography as well as the sexual assault charges.

Only you or the people to whom you allow access to your computer can download material and data to your computer  except in the case of some viruses and malware the origin of which can be traced via digital forensics.

The term ' child sex abuse' is a clue.

Some of the posts here are truly disgusting !

now go censor and warn me for saying so !!!!!!

its possible this bloke isn’t guilty (his trial will settle that) but Aussie police ain’t stupid when it comes investigating and charging people for perverse crimes such as sex abuse, and or of minors - paedophilia is concerned ... they are as sharp as tacks!

Which posts are disgusting? I see no defense for crimes like his.

Maybe read again?

I did and it doesn't mention pornography.

It doesn't mention sexual assault either. It says gross indecency and indecent assault.

From the linked story.

"The charges include gross indecency with a male, two counts of indecent assault on a male person, indecent assault, and knowingly possessing child abuse material."

Indecent assault makes clear it was an assault not consensual. Child abuse material is also clear.

Deny all you want, but that's clear enough.

Who's denying it? I wrote it in the post which you quoted. My point which you ignore is that the words pornography and sex were not mentioned.

Enough with the deflections already.

On ignore.

No deflection, just pointing out facts.

If on ignore, then I can only thank you.

I'm surprised the 36-44 year old charges didn't bite him in the ass sooner, given that he probably had his passport renewed several times in the past 4 decades.

Unless, of course, he's been in Thailand on a massive overstay and an expired passport.

Edit:  Just to be clear, I'm not even guessing about his guilt or innocence.  There's a lot of information missing, especially in issues from decades ago.  Also some questions about statutes of limitation, and whether the clock is put on hold when someone is overseas...
