New TAT drive: Visitors from Eastern Europe and Central Asia "will pay more"

A report on a tourism trade fair in Singapore by TNA suggested that tourists from eastern Europe and Central Asia would pay more than those from existing markets.

And a story from India indicates visitors from the sub-continent are being wooed with special promotions to visit Thailand.

For years people from western countries have claimed they are the big spenders - now the Tourism Authority of Thailand appears to beg to differ as it tries to reach targets of nearly 40 million visitors.

The TAT was joined by 30 trade organizations at the ITB Asia 2019 fair in Singapore.

Coconut products were reportedly handed out to give participants a taste of what Thailand could offer.

But the buzzword countries now being targeted were those in eastern Europe and Central Asia. These would add to big existing markets like the Chinese.

Meanwhile the Times of India online reported on a program entitled "Fly Me to Thailand".

This is being run by the TAT in conjunction with Bangkok Airways - gifts, privileges and discounts are being promised to Indians going to Thailand.

One such incentive is an 800 baht Central gift voucher for three travellers to enjoy.

The Times of India said that Thailand was "growing in popularity" for nationals from their country.

Make visa problems go away and let anyone who want to come and hasn't got any problematic criminal or blacklisted background, let bars and entertainment venue open all hours of the day cut out all the nonsense of not allowed to do this and that and your tourists numbers will go up by 50% at least...

Sure, Ukraine is known as the richest country on the european continent, followed by Moldavia and Belarus.

This all makes sense, thats also why you have to woo them with a <deleted>ty discount or a free visa, because they are so rich.

Id contribute to a TAT fund to help subsidize the air fare of Ukrainian and Modolvan babes. Hell, lets put up promotional materials in the FKKs!

Overwhelming generosity, that's 2,400 that could have aided in the rescue of Thai Airways!

Scraping the bottom of the barrel now,and going

Well, its not really the bottom of the barrel now, since there's a whole continent left: Africa
So TAT, after luring the millionaires from China and India, the billionaires from the Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Aghanistan to Thailand, you should focus on the trillionaires from Congo, Burkina Faso, Togo, etc......
With an expansion into the african market Thailand will reach 100 million premium quality tourists per year pretty soon.

Antarctica! 1 lousy sardine (instead of a couple coconuts), and you can lure all those potential, super-rich, tuxedo-wearing tourists to Thailand. Hope, they'll bring their golden credit cards!

Stop stupid drug searches and keep the army in their barracks not on the streets. Return the duties of the tourist police to helping tourists not busting them. Bring back the vendors and hawkers, especially to Sukhumvit.

Tourists, in general, don't come to sit in alcoholic stupor all the time.

So TAT has given up on North Africans then. Strangely this time last week I was on a Qater flight to BKK. There was a number of gentlemen on it. I asked one of them if he was Russian. Didn't seem happy with this. Apparently they were from Belarus.

A more accurate taste of what Thailand can offer would be a goodie bag containing plastic refuse, used condoms, mixed in a little sewage water to represent the beach, along with a special nose inhaler with the essence of open drains. Also a leaflet on how to pay a policeman, a tout, and a special calculator that automatically works out the foreign entrance fees to national parks, etc. Not forgetting a price list from hospitals with the tier charges clearly outlined in several languages........sarcasm mode engaged by the way.....
