This is being run by the TAT in conjunction with Bangkok Airways - gifts, privileges and discounts are being promised to Indians going to Thailand.

One such incentive is an 800 baht Central gift voucher for three travellers to enjoy.

They might get a pizza and a bit of garlic bread for that .. An just as well its a Central vouch' as the coconut bar girls across the road don't do vouchers ..

TAT and cha cha government strategy:  When in doubt, say something good about the junta and Thai economy.  The peeps in the Thai government do not seem to carry about good business or economics.   They just look for new suckers for the EEC or tourist sector.  Wet blankets and con artists.  Somebody should tell them the two things do not go together.

The Baht will strengthen and they will get even less tourists and their exports will suffer, in a normal world this would be self rectifying, the Baht would fall, unfortunately the economic world has been turned on its head, investors will plow even more money into Thailand and buy bonds because they can't make enough money in the traditional markets of the West, they will also make money due to the falling Pound, Euro and Dollar when they repatriate that money. The farmers won't be able to sell their rice, fruit, rubber on the international market. Something will give way.

Well, its not really the bottom of the barrel now, since there's a whole continent left: Africa
So TAT, after luring the millionaires from China and India, the billionaires from the Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Aghanistan to Thailand, you should focus on the trillionaires from Congo, Burkina Faso, Togo, etc......
With an expansion into the african market Thailand will reach 100 million premium quality tourists per year pretty soon.

And don't overkill airtime fluent English teachers. Vin Vin eweryrone ????

Overwhelming generosity, that's 2,400 that could have aided in the rescue of Thai Airways!

The way I read it is that 3 people have to share the incentive.
So, solo and couple travelers are logically speaking not eligible.
That is convenient, because about 70 % of people travel solo or as two people.

Steve Jobs would envy of this reality distortion field that TAT can create...

I wanted to comment more but I think everything is already said about this. Chinese, Indians and now Eastern Europe.

Ha!

+  in the meantime Bath is getting even stronger.

So many choices for Asian holidays on line and once you have set a budget it’s all easy to calculate for your daily hotel costs 3 star Thailand or 5 star Vietnam then who’s the easiest visas to get and can it all be done on line by your PA or have you to go in person With the family to get passport stamped at a consulate or print out visa in your office most people will go for the simplest Easy option

This is getting more ridiculous by the day. The only area in the world where there are no reasonable numbers of tourists from is Eastern Europe/ Central Asia. There are reasons for this. Ideas like this come from a total lack of education. TAT is on a sinking ship.

And a story from India indicates visitors from the sub-continent are being wooed with special promotions to visit Thailand.

So moving on from the 'quality tourist" which didn't materialise to the lower end of the scale.. but with flights costing more & more with the escalating baht don't expect  too many takers!

TAT - why can't you be a better and more inclusive host like other tourism authorities, instead of picking and choosing who to host and coming out with public statements on who is currently on your 'favourite' list? Your efforts reek of insincerity, it is a wonder anybody bothers to come to Thailand at all!

Make visa problems go away and let anyone who want to come and hasn't got any problematic criminal or blacklisted background, let bars and entertainment venue open all hours of the day cut out all the nonsense of not allowed to do this and that and your tourists numbers will go up by 50% at least...

If all this would be implemented..... Why should I visit Thailand?

All this I can have at home. ????

A more accurate taste of what Thailand can offer would be a goodie bag containing plastic refuse, used condoms, mixed in a little sewage water to represent the beach, along with a special nose inhaler with the essence of open drains. Also a leaflet on how to pay a policeman, a tout, and a special calculator that automatically works out the foreign entrance fees to national parks, etc. Not forgetting a price list from hospitals with the tier charges clearly outlined in several languages........sarcasm mode engaged by the way.....

The truth never counts as sarcasm.

Good bottle of wine of drinkable wine in Spain 5 Euros

Thailand  20 Euros plus????????????????

In Aldi shop in Los Aljazeros they had wine for 85 cents, about 30 baht, and it was better than a lot of the 'wine' here

But the buzzword countries now being targeted were those in eastern Europe and Central Asia. These would add to big existing markets like the Chinese.

Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan such a rich area, am sure they are waiting for Thailand special treatment.... these people do know how to make us laugh
