The chief of the Udon Thani police Lt-Gen Akkaraphon Yeekoh told Thai Rath of the arrest of another person involved with the swindler known as "Dear" or "Mae Manee".

Nittaya or "Bow", 27, from Chaiyaphum was described as a mere lackey in the billion baht fraud.

Wanthanee Thippawet, 30, - the operator of "Mae Manee Luang Loke" - is suspected of running one of the biggest Ponzi or pyramid schemes Thailand has ever seen.

Investors were promised huge returns - some at the top of the pyramid got that, but most of well over a thousand people lost everything.

Nittaya denied being involved in the fraud itself. She described herself as a close associate of Mae Manee knowing her through her tomboy girlfriend Wilaiwan, 25.

She said she looked after Mae Manee's two year old daughter.

She had purchased 16 phones that were used in the fraud, had allowed her bank account to be used and had bought a 700,000 baht MG car with cash from the account before fleeing to Nakhon Sawan where she was arrested on Saturday.

Those items are now part of the evidence trail.

Investigations continue.
