BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, has instructed the Royal Thai Armed Forces to jointly support the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and adhere to the ADMM’s Joint Declaration on Sustainable Security.

The Permanent Secretary for Defence, Gen. Nat Intaracharoen, has inspected preparations for the ADMM Retreat and the 6th ADMM-Plus meeting. The Ministry is to host both events at Avani Plus Riverside Bangkok Hotel from November 16 to 19, 2019. Gen. Nat was accompanied by the Director of the National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT), Sudruetai Lertkasem, and executive members of the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT). The agency is to broadcast the ADMM Retreat and the 6th ADMM-Plus meeting.

The Prime Minister has instructed the Royal Thai Armed Forces to adhere to the ADMM’s Joint Declaration on Sustainable Security, foster trust among the countries involved and strengthen cooperation between the ASEAN member states and their dialogue partners in all respects. They have to maintain ASEAN Centrality to overcome security challenges in the region.

The Permanent Secretary for Defence, and NBT officials then visited the reception room at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall to ensure that the ADMM Retreat and the 6th ADMM-Plus meeting will proceed smoothly and successfully while promoting the good image of the country. The ADMM Retreat and the 6th ADMM-Plus meeting are the final regional events hosted by Thailand this year.

Gen. Prayut instructed the Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, to chair the meeting on national security at a strategic level. He also instructed the Royal Thai Armed Forces to jointly support the ADMM.

The defense ministers of 18 foreign countries are to arrive in Thailand from November 16 onwards. The ministers are scheduled to attend the Defense and Security 2019 and observe anti-terrorism military demonstrations and disaster relief drills from November 18 to 21 at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province. The events aim to show the readiness of the Thai military and enhance regional defense industry collaboration.

What on earth is 'sustainable security' ? It is totally meaningless.

'Sustainable' seems to be the 'go to' word at the moment.

Any of the world's problems can be fixed by sticking the word sustainable in front of them.

Think population growth or energy resources.

I thought the Thai army did not retreat except in the face of an enemy with guns.

That is known as tactical withdrawal in any army. Throw in 'sustainable' and it's a winner. A tactical withdrawal to maintain a sustainable fighting force.  ????

To answer your question.......... That is the reasoning behind buying all that Military Hardware as tanks and Armoured Personell Carriers.....

He suspects that soon the 'Thai Public' are going to get tired on his 'reckless power' and start revolts---- as in Hong Kong now..... ALL that 'armoured' equipment is intended for use against his own 'Thai people'.......

If you haven't considered and thought about that.... Time to wake up and smell the coffee......

AND one of those Armoured Personell Carriers will be permanently assigned as his personal car for around town to prevent him from getting taken down personally during any revolts......

An APC didn't help Diem and Nhu. Not the same situation in Thailand, of course. But the point is those machines can be mobile prisons as well as fortified limousines.

To provide diplomatic parity with Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut as Head of Government, shouldn't those 18 foreign countries also be sending their Head of Government for the meeting as well?
