DSI insists Billy was never released following his arrest

Department of Special Investigation (CSI) chief Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang said today (Tuesday) that Karen community rights activist Porlajee “Billy” Rakchongcharoen was never released after his arrest, as claimed by those who apprehended him, as no official evidence proving that he had been released can be found.

He insisted that he has a solid case against Mr. Chaiwat Limlikhit-akson, former chief of Kaeng Krachan national park in Phetchaburi province, and Boontaen Busarakham, Thanaseth Chaemthet and Krisanapong Chitthet, citing forensic evidence, footage from CCTV systems, communication records and the testimonies of over 100 witnesses.

He said that the DSI investigation results are in line with the initial findings of the Government Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, which showed that Chaiwat and his men arrested Billy, but there is nothing to prove that he was subsequently released “which is an important issue”.

'the disappearance of Porlajee, 30, in April 2014.' Thai justice wheels turn very slowly.  No wonder every 3rd person is a lawyer here.

If you were following the story you would understand it's tough to make murder charges when you don't know if someone is dead or not. For all we knew the poor guy could have fallen from a tree while collecting wild bee honey illegally from the forests which he was known to do or maybe was living happily with his relatives on the other side of the border. It's incredible the authorities never, ever gave up on this case no matter how bleak or cold the case became. Their suspicions were right all along and their hard work eventually led to discovering the body and uncovering a murder. Job well done.

Your statement is rather strange. As one who has followed the story from the start I am really confused by your comment. Right from the start there was concern and belief he had been murdered as their was no evidence or witnesses saw him leave custody. I wonder from your remarks did he do something to you personally that prompted such remarks? "Billy was known to collect honey “ as if that is some major crime. In every village in Thailand people collect honey, tree ants and lots more creepy Crawleys to eat and they have done for generations. My wife used to collect leaves off certain trees/bushes to eat and it was not out of need but out of culture.

The smug bastards bumped him off and didn't even bother to doctor the paperwork.
