Chiang Mai: Wedding organiser disappears dumping couples on their big day

7pm.jpg

A wedding organiser in Chiang Mai is the subject of police reports after failing to turn up for at least half a dozen weddings in the northern Thai city.

The firm took deposits then left the couples to fend for themselves on their big day disappearing with payments and deposits. All the cases happened on Saturday.

One who spoke to Sanook was a police corporal called Pongsawat or "An" who was set to marry Wiraya or "B".

Sanook called him a "jao bao paay daeng" in their story - a red plate groom.

He had paid a deposit for the 29,999 baht package back in January and everything seemed to be progressing normally - even on the eve of the wedding there was communication with the organiser.

But on Saturday the organiser failed to show and Pol Cpl An realized he'd been duped.

Fortunately friends and relatives all worked together to make sure that the wedding went ahead.

At least five other couples were affected and more than a dozen photographers and musicians have complained about not being paid for their services.

Reports have been filed with the Chiang Mai police.

Interesting scam.  Do all the weddings on the same day, then run off.  Seems likely he left one heck of an electronic trail, phone, email, maybe even small deposits for some services with several companies that made things look like real plans were happening, etc.  Time will tell
