'Weird hearing him speak!' Despite being in the movie business since the eighties, Christian Bale's real accent has continued to leave fans shocked and confused

 

He has cemented his a-list status in huge Hollywood blockbusters such as The Machinist, American Psycho and Batman's The Dark Knight series. 

 

But despite being in the movie business since the eighties, Christian Bale's real accent has continued to leave fans shocked and confused. 

 

The star, who was born in Wales and grew up in Surrey, Dorset, and Bournemouth, appeared on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday with Matt Damon, where it was his prominent cockney twang that caught the attention of viewers.  

 

After being born in Pembrokeshire, Christian spent a lot of time relocating around the UK with his parents, and they even lived in Portugal.

Like Christian Bale, it just means they've done a good job.

There's no end of UK actors playing lead roles in US produced TV and movies. I've been surprised by some of them myself.

And Brits were shocked when they learned that Dick Van Dyke wasn’t a real cockney in Mary Poppins!

 

... actually he was dreadful.

Probably also shocked to find Mary Poppins was written by an Australian.
