webfact
Future Forward facing wave of lawsuits By The Nation Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit As ruling by the Constitutional Court is looming, Krungthepturakij political reporters are gathering information of multiple charges against key leaders of key Future Forward Party. Future Forward Party members are mustering evidence to defend it against multiple legal actions in the Constitutional Court that threaten its existence. Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, the party’s secretary-general, has said more than 20 complaints had been brought against the party that could lead to its dissolution. Anti-corruption activist Srisuwan Chanya petitioned the Election Commission to investigate party leader Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit’s shares in V-Luck Media, possession of which is constitutionally prohibited for elected members of the House of Representatives. The commission forwarded the request to the Constitutional Court, which will render a decision on Wednesday (November 20). Thanathorn claims he yielded the shares prior to the March election and insists having the shares would have given him no advantage in the polls at any rate. If the court rules against him, he would immediately be removed from office. The commission could also take further action against Thanathorn if it’s proven he was legally disqualified to run for office and yet did so anyway. Srisuwan also petitioned the Supreme Court to revoke Thanathorn’s right to register for the election because of the shares and asked the Election Commission to suspend its announcement of winning party candidates. Srisuwan has prodded the commission about Thanathorn loaning party members a combined Bt191 million and with his wife donating Bt17.2 million to the party itself. Srisuwan has complained that Pannika Wanich, the party’s spokeswoman, donated Bt1 million to the party after submitting documents to the National Anti-Corruption Commission showing just Bt91,066 in her bank account against total assets of Bt3.3 million. Songklod Chuenchuaphon asked the commission to dissolve the party on March 29, charging that Thanathorn had criticised the Constitutional Court. Surawat Sangkhareuk, chairman of a citizens’ political group, sought the party’s dissolution, citing behaviour seen as “an attempt to overthrow the monarchy”. Sonthiya Sawasdee, a former representative of the Action Coalition for Thailand Party, on April 11 also asked the commission to postpone its announcement of the party’s winning candidates, citing Thanathorn’s invitation to a dozen foreign embassies to have delegates monitor the election outcome. bangkokfrog
The powers that be must be very worried to go to all this trouble.
nobodysfriend
Some people are obviously very scared about the Future Foreward party ...
rkidlad
Any FFP members who have heroin-smuggling convictions, large obviously stolen million-baht watch collections, fake PhDs and/or an unwillingness to swear to honour the constitution (or tell the truth in general) as stipulated by law - rest easy. These are small matters that can be brushed aside.
newnative
They can do what they can to try to eliminate the FF party but they aren't going to eliminate the idea of a new party with new ideas that appeals to the many voters that want change. If they kill FF, another will rise in its place.

They should be more scared if the party is dissolved.... having an opposition party helps keep checks & balances in place, without that you have a dictator like Cambodia, and a lot of unhappy voters on the streets. mikosan
FF is the future. So the corrupt and greedy should get ready to accept it. The revolution is coming.
seajae
obviously the govt has realized the FF are going to take over and start winning elections so have been getting their lackies to file these BS actions against them. The accusations are pathetic at best but typical of what the govt will do to maintain power, lets hope that the courts are not so easily swayed and realize these are all bogus charges

To the extent that they aggressively provoke repression by the target regime. They don't really need to do that in Thailand, the blind hubris of the regime guarantees that it will do it unprovoked......by them. Because It, like many in history, is Pavlovian in its responses to the threat of change. In the New Era Thailand is accelerating steadily towards the "real deal". He is a serial complainant who at one time tried to make it look like he was not biased by filing the odd complaint against the govt side. However, the veil has been removed. Most of his charges complaints should be rejected as frivolous and he should be fined for wasting court/authorities time. What about the others who hold shares in companies on the govt side? It has gone silent. If you are on the govt side you can do no wrong.

neeray
The rule of what's "good for the goose is good for the gander" should apply here. If it was, the Constitutional Court would be overwhelmed with accusations against members of the ruling party, right up to and including the top brass. GarryP
There is a good article in the Asiatimes today. Thanathorn was interviewed for the article and it is interesting how he responds to some of the questions.
Wongkitlo
I am really interested in what happens tomorrow. The FFP party followers have seen what is happening in Hong Kong and Thailand has a history of street protests. On the same day an international figure, the Pope is arriving in a country where most people are Buddhists and don't seem to be that interested in him(they are only expecting 50000 people). It just seems the worse timing for the government that the day they finally get to shaft Thanatorn the Pope arrives in the middle of it.
