The government seen as a type of saviour in rescuing the people from the ills of the world. History teaches us that after a number of years (unfortunately sometimes many many years) the populace often hears a penny drop. Which is that the government is both the cause and the deceptive arbitrator of their problems. Politics in action, no need to read the textbooks! Unfortunately, the wealthy run this government as their personal fiefdom. Not at the retail level, but at the wholesale and import level, almost everything in the country is a monopoly controlled by the few at the top, protected by "their" government. Compare prices here with those in the US (see Amazon), and ask yourself why so many things (like Makita tools) cost double here. At the retail level, there is an illusion of competition. Basic food has not gone up much, as one poster commented. Keeping the basic necessities cheap is the way to keep the people just happy enough to keep quiet. While the old wisdom is get government out of business, here, the model is on its head. The only solution I can think of, I am afraid to mention.
