Trump touts his 'very' good health after unscheduled medical check

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he was in "very good" health after undergoing the first phase of an annual medical check the previous day.

Trump tweeted that he had the first phase of checks at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre in Washington. "Everything very good (great!). Will complete next year," he said.

The White House said on Saturday that Trump had undergone a quick exam and some laboratory tests.

"Anticipating a very busy 2020, the President is taking advantage of a free weekend here in Washington, D.C., to begin portions of his routine annual physical exam at Walter Reed," White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham said in a statement.

Asked on Sunday about rumours the president was visiting for reasons other than a routine checkup, Grishamn said: "Absolutely not. He is healthy as can be."

In her statement Saturday, Grisham said Trump also visited the medical staff and thanked them for their care of wounded service members, and met with the family of a special forces soldier injured in Afghanistan.

"The President remains healthy and energetic without complaints, as demonstrated by his repeated vigorous rally performances in front of thousands of Americans several times a week," Grisham said.

She provided no details about the exam or laboratory tests that Trump underwent during his ninth visit to the medical center.

The president's unexpected and unscheduled trip to the medical center triggered questions on social media since it came months before the annual physical has been carried out in the past.

In a tweet, Grisham decried the questions as irresponsible.

"Seems to be a lot more fun for people/some reporters to speculate & spread irresponsible/dangerous rumours," she said.

The White House typically determines what data will be released from the president's health exam. Trump is not compelled to release any information, and there is no template for the presidential exam.

In February, Trump was declared "in very good health" by the White House physician after hours of examinations.

Trump, known for his love of hamburgers and well-done steaks and an aversion to the gym, gained weight from his physical in 2017, pushing his body mass index into the obese category.

The WH has given conflicting explanations of why Trump went to the hospital.

Meanwhile, I, like many have had annual medical checks for years, in my case every year for the past 35 years.

Why, I wonder, would anyone waste time making multiple trips to the hospital for a routine annual medical check when one trip would suffice?

Get your annual ‘single day snap shot’ of your health done in one go.

Leave more time for golf or whatever else is going on.

Expect the truth to leak out soon enough.

The way lies flow so freely from his gaping maw, I suspect he's got something seriously wrong physically. We ALL know mentally he's a disaster.

Start treatment with neuroleptics at this point would jeopardize his upcoming election as he won't be as funny anymore....

Sure !!!

If the pressure gets too great and he decides to bow out gracefully as opposed to being turfed out, he can always lie and say something showed up but the doctors didn't want to tell me right then.

He can't do that, because there is a mountain of indictments from the SDNY waiting for him the instant he no longer wears the crown and he knows it.

We're told that this president is very, very, very busy - up at 6:00 AM working until late, and he's super-human - so this spur of the moment decision was curious.

Seen some reports about "chest pains" coming out of Walter Reed. Probably just some issues with all the meds? Re-adjust, and cut back on some? Dr. Rony is still in the WH prescribing meds.

Its a little known fact but trump does these medical visit to receive regular blood transfusions. Its mostly the blood of young healthy democrats but also some orange dye and a small dose of moral fibre, due to a deficiency

I hope he is being as honest and truthful about this as he is with everything else.

So fried chicken, burgers, fries and Coke are very good for health, all offset by twittercise and watching Fox and Friends all day.

He's been known to say he has good genes and there might be something to that. I think his habits (diet, no exercise, little sleep, seemingly in a constant state of battle/rage) would have killed most people much earlier.

Settle down, this was only the first phase! They only had time to check his ego, and yes, it was in very good health!
