Phnom Penh International Airport last week was named the best regional airport of the year in the Asia Pacific by the Center for Asia Pacific Aviation.

The award was bestowed on Thursday during the CAPA Asia Summit, held in Singapore. The event brought together leaders of the aviation and travel sectors.

CAPA is a leading provider of market intelligence for the aviation and travel industries. Its “Aviation Awards for Excellence” were established in 2002 and are composed of 10 categories. According to a statement from Cambodia Airports, the company that manages all international airports in the Kingdom, Phnom Penh earned the distinction because of its contributions to the aviation industry.

“The Regional Airport of the Year accolade, awarded by an independent panel of judges, is bestowed to the regional airport that has been the biggest standout strategically,” Cambodia Airports said, adding that the award aims to recognise smaller airports (fewer than 10 million passengers a year) that rely primarily on short-haul routes.
