sotonowl
On 8/21/2020 at 5:25 AM, owl sees all said: Investigations are almost complete. Bassett was a wooden furniture company that at one time employed over 20k people. They ventured into the beauty market after some board in-fighting and they became two different companies. Both ran into serious financial probs' and sold out. However, I am more interested in the clippers than the furniture. The machinery eventually found its way to Sth Korea. The 'Three Sevens' company still produce the clippers. The only difference being the stamping, and the packaging. I went to the 20 baht shop yesterday and bought a pair of clippers: Almost identical! The packaging says a 'lifetime guarantee', where as the Bassett clippers only had 10 years. Further investigation led me to Lazada. The cost of a decent pair of Three Seven clippers is 79 baht. Appreciably less than the $4 US, but still more than 20 baht. But!!!!! I notice that all the modern Three Seven clippers now have a little hole at the end for attachment somewhere. In conclusion; I might say that the clippers in question have been discontinued. I've got the details of Three Seven of Korea, and will be asking some searching questions (I'll not tell the Mrs). Watch this space. PPS: at the 20 baht shop I also bought a light bulb (energy saver), a pack of 8 toilet rolls and an 8 inch diameter fishing net. Last of the big spenders!! Mysteriously this cropped up on my FB page today, coincidence? Maybe, maybe not. They do look like a great bit of kit but not at the reduced price shown. https://www.swanation.co.uk/products/nail-clippers-for-thick-nails?variant=33157368971350 Hope i'm allowed to do that.

They look great. And, if not a coincidence; then a conspiracy. This personal grooming has reached new heights. I've had lots of clippers in my time. I tend to abuse them. That's why I have a pair in my fishing box. The ones that I was drawn to originally looked to be good value at 20 baht, and made in the US too. My grooming kit consists of nail clippers, a small pair of pliers (nose and ear hair) and some strong twine (pulling teeth). Mildred has cut my hair for the last five years, in a style she fancies at the time*. And when my beard grows, it gets cut with any scissors that are lying around. This new fancy grooming stuff leaves me scared. "Oh, he is so much in touch with his feminine side. He sometimes wears my panties." Break out the clubs I say. Come back Olly Reed; we need you. * When she was much younger, my hair would finish up looking terrible. Mrs Owl would moan about people looking at it, but after a couple of weeks of growth it would look fine. Now, she is very professional. Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 23-08-2020 Some sad news yet again. Charkie has been so unfortunate with her offspring. The last remaining kitten was attacked by a dog outside the house and didn't make it. Mildred was very upset; as was I. Ginger was such an adventurous kitten. Very inquisitive. Very brave. The dog situation is awful. Within 50 metres of us there must be 40 dogs. Charkie brought Ginger in and began licking her all over. Buried him at the farm in the afternoon. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 On the way to the farm I saw the 'poo poo wagon'. Discharging its load into a sugar field. The Mrs says it is bad. But I point out that spraying glyphosate and paraquat are bad, but that doesn't stop the farmers using them. We are using glufosinate-ammonium, which is less poisonous than the big two. The data suggests that its concentration is greatly reduced by water, rather than by other means. So, this seems to be the right time to be using it; between showers. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 I'll plant the avocado today. Milly says to take it to the farm. I think she is right. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 This rain has rejuvenated the ponds. The fish are very active. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 Mildred's school has given up on grassing the slope at the front of the building. Concrete steps are being put in. Don't know why they didn't put them in earlier. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 It a dilemma with the herbicides. The rice growers use one that is very selective - kills some weeds - but doesn't harm the rice. I'm sure some traces must finish up on our dinner plates. So sad about the little cat. I said to Milly that I'll put a mesh along the bottom of the gate, and we will have to keep the gate shut. If more kittens arrive that is. Wouldn't surprise me. Mains water off again. We store 300 litres in the bathroom. That's barely enough for a couple of days. It's the little things we take for granted that are most missed. Water and clean air for two. I'm quite impressed with the B10 deisel. Pick-up runs well. The price is under 20 baht while the other blends hover around 22.9. Waiting for B20 to arrive in our area. Then B50!!?? The pound has rocketed upwards. Transferwise quoting 41.3 baht to the pound at close this week. On its way back to 70 hopefully! Went fishing yesterday and bagged eight pla nin in little over an hour. Changed the hook and used the new clippers for cutting line and pushing the hook barb down. They are unmarked. What a bargain they were. Looks like rain. Bye y'all Take care out there.

I remember a few years ago my mother-in-law told my wife that I shouldn't really be walking to (by coincidence) the barbers - about 500 metres, but should use the motorbike or car, because she was worried people would think we didn't have enough money to buy our own transport. The usual loss-of-face syndrome. Unsurprisingly that fell on deaf ears, much as I get on with them for most things. Once I walked to their farm and back (about three kilometres each way). Completely baffled them. I also walked into town one afternoon, knowing I'd be drinking beer there, about five kilometres. Well I tried to. My wife was out somewhere, so couldn't get a lift. After only one kilometre a woman on a motorbike stopped and asked in English where I was going. Initially I thought she was trying to chat me up. I told her I was walking into town. The look of horror on here face! She told me it was too dangerous. I laughed at her when she said that, of course it wasn't. In the end she insisted on giving a lift half a kilometre to a guy who she knew had a tuk-tuk. Fair enough, it was kind of her. He took me into town.

I’ve had similar experiences when walking into town, about 5km. Random people stopping and offering a lift. They think we are mad and maybe broken down as they would never do it. The only danger for me is the dogs roaming looking for food. My partner used to worry about the face aspect at first but she’s given up now. I even get her walking with me some days on the roads for added protection. Edited August 23, 2020 by Kadilo 3
Popular Post owl sees all
When I first got to the village we bought a m/c (still got it) and it was parked outside the MinL's. As with most of these villages, brothers and sisters and sons and daughters live quite close. One of Mrs Owl's nieces jumped onto our m/c and went to her mother's home. No more that 80 metres. The bike duly came back, and a short while after the Mrs' sister took it away to her house. A longer journey of about 100 metres. Half hour later the niece was again riding to her house on our m/c. Both the sister and niece had their m/cs outside the house. I asked the wife why they were using ours, and not their own. Evidently the niece's bike was low on petrol and the sister thought ours looked newer. After yet another round trip, going to the corner shop, by the wife's brother this time. I sauntered over, removed the keys, and slipped them into my pocket. If anyone wanted the bike in future, I would have to be asked. No-one asked if they could use it again. Learnt something that day. They do have this impression that anything that is yours is theirs too. In some ways it’s nice that they like to share but more often than not it’s them sharing your stuff and not vice versa unless it’s a bowl of uneditable somtam which you don’t want. I bought myself a new m/c for when I’m out there for the pure reason that every time I wanted to use the gfs it was no where to be seen. Usually “borrowed” by the old man to nip off somewhere no one knew where and come back hours later. Mainly because his was a heap and hers was full of ferang fuel. 2

phetphet
Further investigation led me to Lazada. The cost of a decent pair of Three Seven clippers is 79 baht. Popular Post owl sees all
Pattaya was never my cup of Rosy. I tried to fit in; even to the point of grabbing a bit of fluff on Beach Road. Took the bit back to the room only to find out she was a he. How could I be so silly billy? Anyway! Gave him 100 baht to get back to Beach Road, then went out again. The bar girls in the bar below were all giggling. Went down Soi Dianna and met the wife. Kadilo
I loved Pattaya for years and still make the odd trip back for old times sake. I have a mate who basically has never been anywhere else in the 20 plus years we have been coming. Its not like like he lives on the outskirts or anything and pops on for some action. He has bought a condo on Soi 15 and is amongst it every night. I always say if I wasn’t so stupid for 15 years or so in Pattaya I would be working now. That said they were great times and memories. I just wish I had wound it in a little but that was me, all or sod all. Im glad for my health, physical and mental that I met the other half. I rarely drink now and am in a lot better condition than I was 5 year ago. My mate is very much a live for today kind of guy and fair play to him, each to their own.

Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 26-08-2020 The lads spraying the Glufosinate Ammonium, or Phosphinothricin for short, have nearly finished, but they needed more to kill off the last section. So this morning, I took Mildred to school and went shopping for the nectar. Couldn't get it my usual shop as they had sold out, but I found another shop at the same price (4l for 670 baht). The young lady serving me was a stunner. About 20, and such a lovely smile. A real twinkle in her eye too. She has leapfrogged the 7/11 check out girl as my number one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At the school I saw that the steps were progressing nicely. It's gonna be great. Do hope they tidy up the surrounding area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are a couple of cars in Ban Dung, that have caught my attention. Both German, and wonderful examples of engineering on wheels. I think the Beetle is drivable but the Merc is waiting for a new paint job. Shame to see such majestic vehicles not roaring about. Looks like they are parked outside a night club. They have been there for weeks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A huge disappointment for me today. I went into the 20 baht shop to buy up the 'Bassett' or 'Three Seven' nail clippers (to send to England), only to find their were just two left. I haven't opened them yet. I've not looked at the inside, and I can't quite see without opening one up, but it doesn't look as though there is any engraving on them. I don't want to open the package and find out they are China copies. Although not delighted about the clippers, I did buy some great fishing line. Made in Spain. !00 metres of 'super stretch system', and 100% 'Byoer Nylon'. 15.5 kg breaking strain. Would set me back 10 euros in Spain. Another business opportunity for me here I reckon. I was thinking that the toe-clipping adventure had come to an end; but no! Premature thinking. A restock wagon arrived. What treasures lie under the cover I thought as I sat in the pick-up and watched the unloading. y. Hope that's not my nail-clippers you are carefully passing down!? Best shop in town. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Moan, moan, moan about the rain not coming and them we get the wettest month for the best part of four years. I did something that I thought I would not have to do; release some water from the ponds. The thinking is that I'll go from the rice farm to the pond and vice versa by alternating the overflows. If we get 'big rain' I can let the water go into farm two. The bottom two ponds should be 6 inches lower by this afternoon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Eucas along the new road are doing well. They will look fantastic in a few months. They do now, when they get to 2/3 metres high they will attract everyone's eye. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Water on and off. Off at the mo' but on at shower time last evening. I'm not sure if Charkie is sick or still grieving over the loss of her son Ginger. Been off her grub for a couple of days. Planted the last avocado in the farm Monday. Pics soon. Forgot to mention last log; I was refused entry into the weekly market near Ban Dung last Thursday. Had to buy a mask for 10 baht to get in. Once inside only 50% were wearing them. I think Grealish should have been in the English footy squad. One of the best midfielders in the last EPL season, in a very average team. Good to see some new faces though. I'd finally had enough. I demanded - as forcefully as I dare - to get the Buddha objects removed from my bedside cupboard top. I said "Teerak, why not move them over to your bedside cupboard?" "You know nothing stupid farang. Must be near door." "Oh right." Mrs Owl wasn't best pleased to do this. In fact she hated me all weekend. Her collection had gradually built up, almost unnoticed, to the point where I was almost knocking them off the table, in my restless sleep. To be honest they were giving me the creeps. Got removed Friday and I've had some decent night's sleep. The little Buddhas were put into the spare room. Much better. Which left the area clear for my own special things. Every time I go into the bedroom one of my treasures is on the floor. "Teerak! Who is knocking my stuff down?" "They fall over self. I not do." "OK dear. I thought that too." It's a mystery. Bye y'all. 4 1
