Former Kaeng Krachan national park chief Chaiwat Limlikhit-akson has been ordered transferred, from the Conservation Area Management Office in Thailand’s north-eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani to the southern border province of Pattani, to assist in forest protection work.

Mr. Chatuporn Burutpat, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, said today that the ministry wants someone like Chaiwat, who is tough and has considerable experience in suppression work, to assist in Pattani to protect forests and wildlife.

Chaiwat will assume his new role as director of the Pattani Office of Natural Resources and Environment, which is equivalent to the post in Ubon Ratchathani.

Apparently the removal firm is already making arrangements!

Dear lord above us. Someone tough? I guess if you've been accused of murder, that would give some people the impression you're tough. Not sure how that might be a quality or reputation you'd want in a professional environment.

Imagine telling your staff that there's a new director coming in. Telling them that the new director is currently on bail for murdering someone (sticking them in a barrel and throwing them into some water) whilst on duty. Informing them that he's on bail, and the law enforcement investigating him vehemently pushed for his bail to be turned down. But not to worry, everyone. He swore to some spirit on a bridge that he didn't do it.

Amazing Thailand.

Yeah, that's right, just move him closer to the Malaysian border so he can abscond easier from his murder charge.

A move to the Cambodian border would be better. Isn't this where most escapees flee the country?

Only when they're former prime ministers of high-ranking government officials who need to take considerable assets with them that they can "re-invest" there. Malaysia is the preferred flight destination for the lower-rank, money-less hoipolloi such as Chaiwat.
