webfact Posted November 19, 2019 Share Posted November 19, 2019 Security, traffic preparations for Pope’s visit BANGKOK (NNT) - Members of the public who want to see Pope Francis in person are urged to use public transport when the Pontiff visits Bangkok between November 20 and 23, 2019. The Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek, said today that measures have been prepared to facilitate the flow of traffic on the occasion of the Pope’s visit this week. Police are to temporarily close off roads to be used the Pope’s motorcade. Commuters are advised to avoid using routes near the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See on Sathorn Road and the tollway off Rama IV Road from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on November 20 and from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on November 23. On November 21, Pope Francis is to visit Government House, Saint Louis Hospital, the Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall, Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan temple, Supachalasai Stadium, Chulalongkorn University and Assumption Cathedral, Bangkok. Commuters are advised to avoid routes in these areas. Officers from the Protection and Crowd Control Division and the Special Branch Bureau will be deployed to ensure maximum security for the Pope. On November 16, relevant agencies conducted security drills and coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See.
