A contingent of immigration police swooped on an apartment in Moo 9, Nong Prue yesterday lunchtime where they arrested a 45 year old UK national.

The suspect - named as Stelios - was on overstay of 26 days, reported Naew Na.

The raid was led by Pol Capt Prasert Chaiwong under the command of Chonburi chief of immigration Pol Col Samphan Leuangsajjakun.

The British man was handed over to the Pattaya police for processing.

It's sad to see what Thailand have become with theses stories of 'raids, busts and swooping' on people whose crimes are being overstayers, we're not talking about aprehanding arch criminals or knows terrorists operatives here, and it's disheartening to see that this good country with nice people has become and behave like a police state...

This is actually standard procedure worldwide but in other countries authorities would not waste that much money and manpower on 1 person

26 days ?

How did they find out ?

It is very easy to find them with their computer. No exit information, no valid visa. They have all the passport and visa data in their system. The only problem is to find the hiding place of such people because normally they will avoid places with TM30 reporting.

I've said this forever, they want whitey out so that the west doesn't invade to protect its citizens when the military clamp down. Now I'm in vietnam and it seems better here.

They don't want the 'whitey's poisoning the minds of the Thais with the TRUTH about what is really going on here

The Indians and Chinese don't give a fig about such matters

At what stage does it become reasonable for a law breaker to be apprehended?  When they come to notice, or, 26 days, 56 days, 126 days, 1026 days?

Would the howls of indignation be quite so strident if the transgressor was Nigerian?

Thais hunt in packs, I'm always surprised that people here are so surprised when they once again overdo a simple police action.
