Pattaya reinvented: Tourism group aims to transform image of Thailand's 'Sin City'

An international group promoting sustainable and responsible tourism and educating about nature are set to change Pattaya's image - possibly for ever!

One of the activities for a new kind of Pattaya adventure is the shooting of EM Balls.

These are balls that are directed at polluted water. The EM Balls contain things like micro-organisms, lactic acid bacteria and yeast. They are designed to turn filthy water into clean water, naturally.

This could be a boon for Pattaya's image helping to rid it of its unwanted tag as a sex capital where the sea and other water is filthy.

Previously the mere mention of shooting balls might have conjured up thoughts of activities that take place in the bars of the red light districts.

But not now for an organisation that will take tourists to the "Special Pattaya".

PATA - the Pacific Asia Travel Association - are an internationally acclaimed organization acting as a catalyst for the responsible development of travel and tourism in the Asia Pacific region, according to an online blurb.

Bangkok Biz News reported that they will be holding a forum in Pattaya at the end of this month to develop their aims, one of which is to help rebrand Pattaya.

Apart from the ball firing, there will be nature trail visits, fertilizer studies, visits to ancient Chinese markets and learning about all the different things you can do with a coconut.

The PATA Destination Marketing Forum 2019 will be held on November 28th and 29th.

Three different eco-tours are limited to 50 participants each, so please hurry to sign up.

So this mob are going to shoot "EM" balls into the local water to clean it up. Not how most would do that.

Now if they are successful and increase the number of visitors to Pattaya, what are they going to do about the water infrastructure, the power infrastructure and the waste infrastructure. Wait a moment they said they had one under control.

pattaya to become more "balls orientated"

can we also start a train spotting club

things are looking up :cheesy:

Train spotting will be allowed so long as it doesn't involve gambling on the numbers.

Or surreptitious games of Connect Four.

So the officials say: "Come to Pattaya where we have nice beaches at polluted water". I am not sure if this is a clever marketing.

Just go in the sea then you're own balls can have a swill in feted water ..

In 1994 I did an environmental improvement exhibition at a Hotel in Pattaya where one of these crackpots was claiming that he put the magic compound into the canal next to his home and he could drink the water. They were selling the same sort of magic enzyme/micro organism mixture to Thai Dairy in Bang Pa In. It did not cure the problem with their waste water and the factory was threatened by the I.E.A.T. with closure due to the pollution. I redesigned the waste treatment plant with and advanced aerobic digester and the result was clean water coming out of the plant and no smell. These plants work better by building up the naturally present bacteria and enzymes under aerobic conditions as they are more hardy and you do not need to pay these sort of people monthly maintenance fees for their magic mixtures. The main problem at this time is that the central waste water treatment plant needs to be replaced and probably tripled in size. It took us around 15 years from 1982 to get the first sewage treatment plant installed in Pattaya. In 1982 there were no sewage plants anywhere including the hotels. We put the first one in at the Woodland Resort and a few others gradually followed suit. We persuaded Kamnon Poh to install the central sewage tretaent plant through Summit Grade but that was 20 years ago and thanks to no maintenance and the increased size of Pattaya it cannot cope.

Wouldn't this be taking jobs away from Thais and likely fall into a prohibited job classification? Such organized activity would provide something of value.
