BANGKOK (NNT) - The Deputy Prime Minister for the economy has called a meeting with the government’s economic team to introduce new measures for the New Year, aimed at spurring growth with momentum for next year.

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has called a meeting with the Minister of Finance Uttama Saowanayon and officials from economic agencies, such as the Fiscal Policy Office, the Excise Department and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, to discuss new economic stimulus measures for the New Year holidays.

After the meeting, the DPM said related agencies will now be identifying which measures they will push and introduce economic measures accordingly. He said, however, that the Thai economy is not only suffering from an under performing export sector, but confidence also has yet to recover.

He has asked all sides to help one another in order to keep the economic slump from deepening, and help maintain the momentum of economic growth next year. He also stressed that the government is giving priority to growth as well as the reformation of the Thai economy.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Thai economy in Q3 this year has grown by only by 2.4 percent, which is lower than forecasts, but in Q4 it will surely perform better. He then mentioned that the 4.5 percent deficit in the export sector in October was due to the trade war affecting all countries, which is an issue everyone must fight against.

Only three days ago Somkid came out with his catchphrase:

"Ssssh! "Don't mention the economy....."

His reasoning being,

“If we keep talking about it, it’ll make good things look bad, and this will have wide repercussions. and could affect investor confidence”

Now here is coming out with a media statement claiming how the economy is under performing and confidence has yet to recover and how he is going to reform it. Is anymore proof needed they are behaving like headless chooks who haven't got a clue what they are doing.

Their only originality seems to be throwing helicopter money about. That seems to fix everything!

As you can see dear Somkid, you don't understand anything about economics, yes, export is a part but Baht too high is the biggest killer of your economy.
I know you are making money with speculation, but if you really care about your country, put the Baht back in place, now!
It seems that giving bad news makes you happy, always your smile on your face

....it is suffering from years of Prayut's economic policies that have gotten Thailand to such an economic decline.

The junta unilaterally without elected public representation placed into the Constitution and enacted organic laws a 20-year National Strategy Plan that can only be altered by a constitutional amendment. But in just two years since 2017 it has proven in the hands of the former and current administration to be outdated, if not irrelevant.
