Thai caption: Hot head farang bashing an ATM

A British tourist was arrested in Koh Samui yesterday after damaging two ATMs at the beach in Ao Nang, Krabi, on Monday.

Nathaniel T., 30, said the machines wouldn't give him any money.

Police in Ao Nang received complaints from the bank about the damage and soon had an arrest warrant issued by the court.

The tourist was traced to Koh Samui where immigration paid him a visit at his hotel in Chaweng.

He admitted it was him, saying he was cross when no money was forthcoming. He then continued on his holiday from Krabi to Surat Thani.

A video showed him repeatedly punching one of the machines before walking off in a huff.

77kaoded called him "angrit sut saep" in their headline - a nasty British piece of work.

They did not explain exactly how the police managed to get an arrest warrant in the name of the suspect.

He is being taken back to Krabi to face the music.

those transfer fees and even hidden much worse transfer fees on some machines and then the 220b is a killer! Oh not to mention your home bank fees....!!!!

I geel the guys pain!

Agreed.

Then again I'm living back in the UK now. All of the places that exchange money quote 35/45 (+ commission) as their rates buy/sell, rather different to the 38/39 that one would see in Thailand.

I'll keep my 8'ish '000 Baht in my bag until I next visit the LOS!

The Thai language in photo not use the “farang” word.

Is says “another nation” = foreigner.

Well they wouldn't would they, but it's not too difficult to work out. All ATM transactions are logged whether they issue money or not.

So a quick consultation with the bank's database and it's gotcha!

Could he be called a black farang or coloured farang?

No. She said 'foreigner' or European'. It can be used in both contexts apparently.

I do feel for the guy and the grief he is getting on here. On holiday forgetting your in a 3rd world country with 3rd world banking. Expecting same service he gets back in the UK was his first mistake. Frustration and maybe desperation resulted in him losing his temper "let he who hath not sinned cast the first stone". How much physical damage can you do to an atm by kicking or hitting it? Not much I would think. Its not as if he took a brick or hammer to it. Learn from your mistake and remember when you book your next holiday.....
