More details have emerged after it was announced that an Australian bikie with links to the Hells Angels was arrested in Thailand.

A sting took place that reportedly saw three people arrested then two others taken down nearby. One was another Australian.

A video showed drugs police piling into a property over a locked front gate during a raid.

At a press conference police announced the arrest of 46 year old Jamie Hansom from Australia, 38 year old Chimezie Duru from Nigeria, Steven Hovi, 58, another Australian, Jiraporn, 35, from Nakhon Sawan and Wirapha, 34, from Samut Prakan.

Two kinds of "ice" were on display totally 1.229 kilos, a gun, bank books, a vehicle registration document, electronic cards and phones.

The gang were selling the drugs to foreign tourists.

Police had arranged a sting to buy 1 kilo of ice for 350,000 baht. Hansom, Duru and Jiraporn arrived at the Lion Pub in a Toyota Vios and were arrested, said 77kaoded.

(This seemed to contradict earlier reports from Australia that the Nigerian was arrested after trying to flee from a balcony, notes Thaivisa).

They had been staying at a house at 154/15 Moo 10, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung.

The inquiry was expanded resulting in the arrest of Hovi and Wirapha at Room 206-7 of the Executive Residence in Moo 12, Bang Lamung.

Charges of possessing and dealing in a Class 1 drug, a weapon violation and a further charge of possession of a Class 1 drug have been made against the suspects.

The death penalty is wrong in all circumstances.
Once someone is executed there is no possibilty of a retrial with new evidence
The countries which still have it say it is a deterrent.
So why is there still drug trafficing and murder?

There is a simple solution to the "drug problem"
Legalise all drugs just like Tobacco and Alcohol and tax at point of sale
This means instead of funding the terrorists and even whole countries with the astounding profits,
the users pay directly for the health systems which currently support them AT OUR EXPENSE

There are only two groups who profit from the current drug distribution regime but everyone is addicted.
1. Drug producers and distributors making billions of dollars profit illegally.
Most of these are criminals and they are addicted to the drugs trade as much as the end users. What other commodity has such as markup - cocaine has a street price of $US165 per gram or 165,000 per kilo?
2. Law enforcement agencies who are now mostly dependent on OUR MONEY to fund catching all players in the drug market.  Because the profits are so vast they only catch a small proportion of the trade and there is substantial corruption. The Law is also addicted to the drugs trade as whole agencies spend large budgets occasionally catching the slow learners.

Take the huge profits out of the business and most of the criminal networks will collapse.
But of course we will have to find work for the millions of drug law enforcement employees!

I won't hold my breath. Too many politicians have made a name for themselves selling Law and Order packages

Rob, in the West, a biker is someone who rides a motorcycle as a means of transport.
A bikie belongs to a gang who ride motorcycles as a way of life and are often (but not always) involved in criminal activities. Calling someone a bikie is usually not a compliment ????

They ran the Aussie Outlaws out of Pattaya more than a year ago. Clubhouse closed and nearby bar they frequented closed too.

Recently the clubhouse reopened under a different guise and bar was remodelled, renamed and reopened, but without the previous clientele.

Was in there last night, couple of bikers wearing patches in there, acting like dicks. Patched as Banditos, not Outlaws and the loudest one sounded German. Not sure if they're trying to make a comeback or not. As in the OP, if they are, RTP are onto them like a rash.

These low self esteemed bikers are like little boys. They cant wear their colours in Oz, so come here.

I laugh everytime I see a man over 50 wearing mc colours here, very sad.

What's a 'bikie'? Some kind of biscuit?? Or did the Thai journalist get muddled with 'biker'?

Tough language, English.

There's plenty of Youtube videos on the net or sites around that can teach you English. You can also enroll in some language schools that might help.

RE - So if he were to receive a death sentence for a fraction of the amount it would seem rather unjust.

* Unjust justice - a lawless environment need a lawless judgment -  the only language they understand ...

You are wrong to compare the laws and punishments of Australia with Thailand.

In Thailand, drug offences automatically receive the death penalty. Afterwards, that is usually reduced to life imprisonment or less.

This has long been known. It used to be printed on the immigration arrival card but has been removed in recent years.

Even if the biker receives the death penalty, it is very unlikely to happen.

Are they still murdering people in Thailand? Sorry, executing, sounds better but same "end".

I know Thailand is lagging a fair bit in terms of Justice but hey, the US is still executing its

people, some even have been found not guilty, after they were dead, but its no big deal,

especially  if they are black!

Yawn. Here we go again. Another 'legalise drugs and the world is a safer place'.

What next? Legalise sexual acts against children, or murder etc etc

There is someone at 0:35 who needs to be sent back to do some firearms training. Looks like he thought about shooting one of his colleagues.

What is the foreigner doing there?

America has for-profit prisons. I long suspected that their drugs laws were partly a way of keeping them full and profitable.

I think that legalisation is the way to go, probably with some controls. We don't want dealers outside schools selling heroin to kids, obviously, for instance.

The "War on Drugs" hasn't been successful, time for a new approach.

(I'm not a user BTW, probably had a puff on a spliff on 5 occasions in my life).

I’m all for the death penalty

Unless it's applied to you?

How can people be so pro death penalty in nations that are well documented for corruption and having no rule of law, or countries operated by despots and autocrats?

BIZARRE!

There is one mafia in Thailand and they all carry guns, drive pick ups with flashing lights giving an ' air of respectability '  and wear brown uniforms and any calls of Mafia by them, is to deflect from their own nefarious acts and deeds.

You are trusting law enforcement in a country notorious for setting up people and being totally corrupt, they are not answerable to anybody, they buy their rank and positions, they have little or no knowledge of the law and use extreme violence to beat confessions out of the innocent?

You sound a great guy!
