miketu
Hi all, does anyone know about the #!$&(*&%&%^$!! small yellow and black checked insect about the size of a grain of rice that comes in the house at night and causes a large painful red rash if it stings you or is crushed on your skin? Just gotten bit by one near my arm pit and has already rashed up with bumps, real nasty %%$#@!#@ bug! Thanks!

Popular Post katana
Looks like a Rove beetle. They contain a potent vesicant pederin in their haemolymph that will produce a nasty blistered skin rash. Apparently pederin is highly toxic, more potent than cobra venom. So if you see one, never touch it or crush it with your fingers and get it out of the house using some other object! 3

He came out in a bad rash over his legs and torso. The doctor diagnosed this as the culprit, apparently, they like damp towels, and left the residue you describe on the towel which was then rubbed into the skin. It took about two months for the rash to heal, but still left minor blemishes.
Damrongsak
Yikes! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paederus_dermatitis There are thousands of species in this genus, but could well be. Looks like the one in the pic in the Wiki article. Edited December 2, 2019 by Damrongsak

brianthainess
I have had rashes and bites from a bunch of things, even from garden grass, the best thing to reduce rash and itching so far has been vinegar not any of the creams given by doctors. katana
If you Google image search for rove beetle rash there are some pictures of the rash which is no trivial thing. In Thai they call the insect: duang gon grajok or duang pbeek san or duang gon ngawn. https://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/ด้วงก้นกระดก Edited December 2, 2019 by katana
Dante99
If you get bitten or a squashed one on your skin, be careful not to touch that area and then touch skin in another place, the rash transfers to another location easily.
xtrnuno41
I put a post of such a creature in forum and a movie about it i got from my wife. You can not touch them, as then you have the skin problems. You can read animals in Thailand, little mean rove beetles
