If a young woman knows she has it what's to keep her from going on a sex rampage to infect as many men as possible to pay them back. All along collecting as much money for her family as possible before she dies. Be lucky? I'd say be smart. If the positive person is virally supressed the transmission possibility is reduced by 96% according to studies.

Based upon my nearly 20 year observation in the field, I know a lot of people who have had to stop Truvada because of this. It's the Tenofovir disoproxil component that causes the side effects. That's why people should undergo a few extra tests before taking it.

It baffles me that hiv-neg people want to take the risk of these side effects over condom use and without a proper medical examination. People on PrEP hopefully are being monitored by the treating/prescribing physician for any adverse effects. Part of the protocols are for regular 3/12 blood checks and sexual health checks, as well as physical workover.

If people get unmanageable side effects then obviously they shouldn't take PrEP and instead find an alternative. For me and everyone else i know who takes it its fine

Make that "should be" Unfortunately there are some private clinics pushing both PEP and PrEP with little oversight or pre-screening and websites selling it so there are people self prescribing. Some of the people getting from both of these sources would not fit critetra for it either.
wasabi
PrEP on demand remains a valid option if you cannot tolerate daily intake which did happen to me (nausea). While it is not conclusive to protect against insertive vaginal sex I would bet money the odds are very good that it does and definitely better odds in your favor to be on PreP for risky encounters than not. On Demand means you take two pills at least 2 hours before sex and then again at the same time for the next two days. 4 pills total. If in this window there is another sexual encounter you continue taking the pills until sex has stopped then continue a final two days.

I've read a couple of times that on demand dosing is based on already having a build up of the drug in your system rather than from scratch kicking it off. PingRoundTheWorld
Sensational headline. But it very likely might just suggest that more gays in WA are practicing safe sex while more "straight" men have sex with other men (ladyboys included). Come on. Let's look at the transmission rate (source - CDC): Insertive vaginal sex: 4 out of 10,000 exposures Receptive vaginal sex: 8 out of 10,000 exposures Insertive anal sex: 11 out of 10,000 exposures Receptive anal sex: 138 out of 10,000 exposures Oral sex: negligible risk (according to the CDC!) 4 out of 10,000 exposures. Math doesn't lie, people do. Actual cases of men getting HIV from heterosexual intercourse are rare. Caveat: the rates above are for America where 80% of men are circumcised. Uncircumcised men have a greater chance of transmission - I'm not sure just how much more.

What is a 'straight' man? How many heterosexual men are covert bi..or played around or experimented with guys but dont admit to it? The massive growth of all STIs in the UK comes from gay men having unprotected sex fueled by party sex drugs. From my experience Thai bar girls are much more strict about condoms than British girls who have sex for free.

I'm not sure you are right about that, @kingofthemountain seems to be in line with my experience. Women can be carriers for ages with no symptoms or they ignore symptoms for ages unlike men you mostly get symptoms quickly. Regular testing isn't going on in bars and the like (with very few exceptions - i know of one place). I don't know any women who have got tested on their own accord, I've taken them, or other guys have. As for being strict on condom use, some women are some arent

Some know that they have a STD already. What should they do with their life? Probably try to earn as much money as they can for their family or/and their child/children. Some of those with STDs are drug addicts. They need a lot of money for their drugs. Sometimes guys tell my their sex stories they had with such service people and quite often I hear that they didn't use a condom or even kicked out the service person because they didn't want to work without condom. I think this sex industry has its own standards and their customers either don't think too much or are naive or don't (have to) care. Here the topic is only HIV. But don't forget that this is not the only STD. Hepatitis C and some others are not easy or eve impossible to treat.

Wrong, obviously you have 0 experience on the ground. i had a few girls who was infected and totaly unaware of their medical problem. a complete test is between 500 and 1000 bhts, for most of the ''working girls'' is not cheap. 50% of the girls don't care if you use a condom or not, it's ''up to you'' i had one time one young girl on beach road asking to the customer to pay a supplement of 20 bahts if he wants a condom! Most of them don't do tests, never. I have no agenda, and i had been with hundreds of ''prostitutes'' in Pattaya during the last years. 6 hours ago, sunnyboy2018 said: Wrong. Yes for a man you can know if you are infected, but not always and for all the diseases. For a girl it's much more difficult, i had one who was using hygienics tampons all the time she was just thinking the permanent flow was normal. In fact and after a test, she was infected. So sorry but it's you who post nonsense with obviously a very little experience on the ground. You should think more before writing something on someone you don't know at all. I don't so sermon and i don't have moral viewpoint because i am very far from to be a saint i bang on a regular basis street prostitutes, ladyboys and so on. sometimes using condom sometimes not (I know it's bad but i am not perfect) and i should be tested more often.
