A post on the Facebook page ‘Newshawk Phuket’ has a 30 second video captioned ‘in Karon, what happened? This happened on December 2 at 4PM, on the road, in front of Karon Beach, Phuket’.

The video shows a group of people running after a western man and attacking him.

Today , Karon Police Superintendent, Pol Col Prawit Suthiruang-Arun, told media that he has ordered Karon police to investigate the incident as depicted in the video.

Karon police received a report about a physical assault in front of a seafood restaurant located on the beachfront of Karon. At the scene, police found an American man, 44 year old ‘Conelly’, and three restaurant staff including 27 year old Teeraporn Thitayaporn, 20 year old Aomin Wen from Myanmar and 21 year old Nadee from Myanmar.

After speaking to the people involved, and witnesses, police found that there was a ‘misunderstanding’ when Connelly was having a conversation with the staff about food, which resulted in the fight as seen in the video.

Police allowed the two sides to talk so police could get a better understanding about what happened. The two sides confessed to the police that they both attacked each other. However, they only suffered minor injuries.

The staff, as well as the American man, were fined 500 baht each by the Karon police. The matter was settled by the local police without any arrests.

Later, all the ‘players’ told media they had no intention to file criminal or civil charges.

Complete nonsense in my opinion.
Wonder what the "argument" would be while he's still wearing a helmet?
Just passing by while complaining about the food?

I'm thinking he parked in front of their restaurant in a bit of the road they considered theirs.

Run white boy. Run

You think this was funny? A mob (at least 14 people) armed with sticks and what looks like boards chasing down a lone man. Can't wait for one of the guys getting a kick out of this to have something similar happen to them. But they probably won't be as fortunate as this guy, who looks like he was taking care of at least three of them pretty well before the mob jumped. A lot of the old guys on TVF will manage to wheeze about 20 ft. and then get their brains beat out. Laugh then.

You think the Indians will eat in expensive restaurants ? ????????

It's not required to eat inside before the brawl

if you try to park in front of the restaurant

the fight can start just here, it's why the american has still his helmet.

(A lot of hotels, restaurants and so on consider in an abusive way the street

in front of them as a ''private'' part of their business)

I might have to lie where I am from if I ever go back to that hot hellhole.  Americans are not getting a good reputation lately. But that picture is priceless.

The birman staff of the restaurant was not aware of his nationality

every tourist is (Miss)treated in the same bad way with this parking problem

i have been ejected with roughness from a lot of parking lot in front of business in Pattaya.

The only time i have left my motorbike despite the sign ''parking for customers only'' at my

return my tires were flat, Lesson learned. Obviously in Thailand the street is not a public place.

I am sure this video is much more damaging for the reputation of Thailand and his tourism

than for the american reputation,

Most of the americans i have encountered in all countries

all my life long was nice guys,

Thanks, i got my daily portion of news from Phuket now......nobody died this time?

No one died. There were only slight injuries and the matter was peacefully settled with no one filing charges. The only thing really hurt were the oversensitive feelings of some posters.

Yes, I do not think it´s funny either. However, I have been living here long time enough to know that you just do not pass a restaurant, eat in a restaurant or even just politely complain about the food creates a reaction like this. Just maybe he is one of these guys that can´t show manor and adjust to the culture in the country he stays in or visit. So, what do you say? Have you just been attacked out of no reason at all?
