Can I get a 1 Year Marriage Extension in Europe / Malaysia / Cambodia??

Hello everybody,

 

I've been living in Thailand with my Thai wife for more than 12 years now.
On a "marriage visa" using 1 year Extensions of Stay.

 

During these years we have had to deal with a lot of corrupt officials.

We were even forced to go to a different immigration office a couple of years ago.

 

Just applied for another extension last week.

 

This weekend some officers will come to our house to take pictures, once again.

Two of my Thai friends have to be there too, to confirm that they know me.

They already came with us to the immigration office, but that's not enough I guess.

 

Of course we will need to pay the officers gas and lunch money as usual.

 

I won't tell which office it is; feel not safe to do this.

Long story short:

We are very tired and to be honest a bit scared to visit our immigration office.

My question:

Can I do an extensions of stay abroad, in Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia...

Or can I do it in Europe perhaps?

If I remember correctly I got 3 months when I first applied for a Visa based on marriage in my home country.

Later in Thailand they gave me 1 year more I think.

 

Is it still possible for me to do it this way?

Or are there any other ways to get a one year extension?

The Thai immigration service in my home country was quite good I remember.

You cannot apply for extensions of stay at a embassy or consulate.

You can get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage at a embassy or consulate that allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue. You would have to leave and re-enter the country every 90 days to get a new entry.

 

If you are 50 or over you could apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement instead of marriage. You would need 800k baht in the bank or proof of 65k baht income.

That multiple entry non-o visa sounds interesting.

We like to go abroad 3-4 times a year anyway.

 

Can I get this multiple entry non-o visa in any country with a Thai embassy / consulate?

And would I still need to have 400k THB in my Thai Bank account?

Savanakhet Laos is probably the easiest.

No money in the bank needed.

Not all embassies and consulate will issue a multiple entry visa. Some want to see the 400 baht while others don't.

Nearby locations that don't require any financial proof is the consulates in Savannakhet, Laos and Ho Chi Minh City. 

The consulate in Penang, Malaysia wants to see 400k baht in a bank.

Hi Khawphod,

 

You wrote that you already applied last week for an extension of stay based on your Non Imm O - marriage Visa.

In your case I would suggest to wait and ONLY when not approved to consider going the 90-day ME Non Imm O - marriage Visa road (the info provided by UbonJoe on how to do that is of course fully correct). 

But having to do a border-run every 3 months to one of the thai consulates abroad that provides that type of Visa, will be both a time/effort and costly endeavour.

Of course, I fully understand from your post that your want to limit the visits to your rogue IO to the minimum.  But if you do both your 90-day reports and your TM30 filings on-line, you will only need to go their once a year (for your extension of stay).

If you don't know how to do the above reports on-line just PM me, and I will provide you with all the info needed.

Just do it in Savanakhet why make life difficult. I'm sure Europe would be least familiar and most onerous.

Savanakhet seems to to a good choice for me.

I will just leave my 400K in the bank, in case they change their minds.

Thanks for your advice. I better start next year.

I was able to do my last two 90 days reports online.

And the TM30 website seems to work now too.

Which was a big relief.

 

One thing I still don't understand:

After I got this multiple entry non-o visa, I have to leave Thailand every 90 days. OK understood.

 

But is it enough to just leave the country and come back, eg after a short holiday abroad?

Or do I have to make an appointment at the foreign embassy / consulate every 90 days??

That is all you need to do.

You can even cross a border, enter another country and then turn around and come right back.
