“This is not the first time the Thailand Trade and Economic Office has come under fire for enforcing unpopular policies that were introduced without a lot of thought.”

It’s now emerged that the proposed requirement for Taiwanese tourists to submit financial statements to obtain a Thai visa happened after the Travel Agents Association of Taiwan threatened to boycott tours to Thailand. Nothing like a threat of tourist numbers to convince the Thai government to review its stance on the Taiwanese tourists’ visas!

In November the Thailand Trade and Economic Office in Taipei announced a new policy requiring tourist visa applicants to submit submit bank details for the previous three months to prove that they could cover their travel expenses. Unlike in the past, they would also be required to apply online for an appointment, then submit the documents in person.

No, we will meekly bend over for our shafting. These requirements remain in force in the UK and France. But good on the Taiwanese for standing up for themselves.

The requirements you refer to are free 30 day visas on arrival and or other long term visas. Whats your problem?

Me thinks the Chinese could be behind this but good on ya guys,

unlikely as they along with the french and british are next in line for the same rules (its tied to the e-visa system)

though as the 'pilot' has gone so tits up maybe they will just skip the whole stupid plan

Good on them, my hope is the US will slam the door shut on all goods being exported to the US from Thailand. Heavy import taxes.

Let China support them as far as I am concerned.

That's not as silly as it seems. Don't know how it could be organised but if it was down collectively throughout an area it would hurt.

Stock the fridge, get the couch comfortable. Sorry honey no more money until Thais complain.

Will anybody miss those tour-tourists?

Yes, Taiwanese are mostly polite, quiet and they just spend money.  You sound as arrogant and poorly schooled in business as the junta.  You do not choose your customers.  They choose you.  And upsetting good customers is bad business.

Well, they do with all the other plans, such as road safety, cleaning the beaches, sewage infrastructure, road safety, immigration queues, mugging, road safety, bag snatches, fly tipping, soi dogs, etc.  oh, did I mention road safety ???????
