Thai caption: Farang....catch Pla Chon (snakehead fish) A video posted on YouTube and reported on by Siam Rath showed a group of foreigners and their Thai wives competing for prizes by trying to catch fish in a pond set up at a country fair in Surin in Thailand's north east. The announcer at the fair in school grounds in Prasat district proudly proclaimed that Surin has the most buffaloes in Thailand. But as wonderful as these specimens were there was much more to come on Tuesday as the real excitement began. Cue the foreign specimens! As a large crowd gathered the foreigners looked nervous and apprehensive. One was Richard from the UK aged 75 who was hoping to win back to back titles after success with his wife Sommai last year. The competition was provided by a 58 year old Norwegian and his wife, a German aged 66, a man from the UAE aged 27 and a Thai youth team. The pair that managed to get the most fish would be declared the winner. Much fun was had by all as Richard and Sommai retained their title with 22 Pla Chon or snakehead fish. The UAE man and wife were second with 21, and the Norwegian and his better half got 12 for third place. Siam Rath said that the fish catching show was the highlight of the five day event that finishes today.
