New Year: TAT expect seven percent rise in foreign visitors

My friends who run hotels in Samui say that Xmas and New Year bookings are down 50% to 60% from last year, and last year wasn't great. 

 

The ring road is quite civilized and the number of ambulances driving at high speed to carry the white skinned tourists who have just fallen off their scooter are way down. ( I live near a hospital ) 

 

So a 7% increase isn't going to do it !

You are living in Pattaya, that says all. Only cheap tourists. In Chiang Mai are only a few tour buses but lots of Chinese individual travelers (families, group of friends, couples) they spend a lot of money.

They will not come when a country is expensive and on the decline wise up . I live over here and my spending as halfed .

Almost all my German friends, relatives and the homeless will be in Thailand at New Year's Eve.

 

    Why not paying an extraordinary price for some nasty hotel New Years party food and see all the Indians and Chinese people in packs?

 

   I can't think of a better destination than Thailand. Or well, wait.

Given the current high value baht, it shouldn't take much encouragement from other ASEAN members to attract their citizens to their own nation's tourist opportunities.

Your assumptions are rubbish. I have at times spent considerable time in Pattaya, and according to my records spent around 15,000 baht per day there including accommodation. Don't get it twisted and think everyone there walks around chasing bar girls in a wife beater. Some just go there to relax, but are comfortable spending a little more for the experience. There actually is a market for this, it isnt just all about cheap and middle ranged beer bars - there are actually some nice places to relax but you will pay.

 

Chiang Mai on the other hand seemed like a pretty relaxed but cheap place last time I was there - I liked it because the prices were so much lower than Bangkok and Pattaya. The people seemed to genuinely care and were genuinely interested to know me, too.

Yes, you spent a lot of money and the tourists they stay at the Hilton, Siam@Siam, etc. too. But the majority don´t do - as the poster who complained about the masses of bus tourists. In Pattaya FB groups are also soooo many questions "do you know a room around 600 Baht per night?"

 

Yes, Chiang Mai and the north generally is a good place to stay. Cheap and with the most friendly people in Thailand. That´s the reason why I live here.

The Chinese were not boycotting. Chinese tourism slowed due to the trade war and a slowing Chinese economy. The trade war is over ( at least for now ). Dow will rocket to 35,000 by this time next year, I guarantee it. BTS stock in Thailand should 2x over the next year. Everyone that can afford to travel will be getting stupid rich again ( as these are the smart people invested in the US stock market and choice foreign stocks like BTS ). Bitcoin is about to halve so everyone is about to get stupid rich in crypto again too. Money everywhere very soon. Trump will win in 2020, I guarantee it ( especially given the landslide victory that Boris Johnson just had ). And the good times will be rolling again once more. Hate to break to all you doomsayers but the global collapse you've all been wishing for isn't going to happen anytime soon ( unless Trump loses which is highly unlikely ). In some ways, it's a pity, as I was hoping to scalp Phuket foreclosures up for next to nothing. Doesn't look like that's happening. The future looks bright, particularly if Trump can lock down a second term and put these globalist socialists to bed for good.
