The Chinese were not boycotting. Chinese tourism slowed due to the trade war and a slowing Chinese economy. The trade war is over ( at least for now ). Dow will rocket to 35,000 by this time next year, I guarantee it. BTS stock in Thailand should 2x over the next year. Everyone that can afford to travel will be getting stupid rich again ( as these are the smart people invested in the US stock market and choice foreign stocks like BTS ). Bitcoin is about to halve so everyone is about to get stupid rich in crypto again too. Money everywhere very soon. Trump will win in 2020, I guarantee it ( especially given the landslide victory that Boris Johnson just had ). And the good times will be rolling again once more. Hate to break to all you doomsayers but the global collapse you've all been wishing for isn't going to happen anytime soon ( unless Trump loses which is highly unlikely ). In some ways, it's a pity, as I was hoping to scalp Phuket foreclosures up for next to nothing. Doesn't look like that's happening. The future looks bright, particularly if Trump can lock down a second term and put these globalist socialists to bed for good. It's looking that way folks...believe me...that I can guarantee you. #MAGA === #TSG ( THAILAND STAYS GREAT )

Never heard ot the Phoenix boat disaster?

Tourist numbers down 40% compared to last year, and last year was bad – Pattaya

Hey mr rundown no client guest house owner I guess you missed this Damrongkiet says that, anecdotally, the numbers are down a massive 40% when compared to last year.

zero proof. Still cant figure out why you keep s##ting in your own nest. If I was struggling to run a decrepit old guest house like yourself I would take a different approach .

Are you still sulking? Of course Pattaya Entertainment and Tourism Industrial Association knows nothing in comparison to you, a 400 baht room man who can not afford to buy 200 baht towels in Thailand and needs to bring it from Australia????

PS. If you were struggling? you can not afford 200 baht towels, i say you are border line destitute already????

Just came thru bkk at midnight yesterday. Customs was overwhelmed not by the volume of people but by the inability of the chinese tourists to figure out how to scan their fingerprints. 35 minutes waiting for a relatively short line. I would say most people in line were not westerners.  Flight was not full from Taiwan to bkk but pretty close. 3 months ago, same flight, maybe 50-60% full.

He told Thai business media that an increase in flights this year will mean a sharp rise in the number of visitors.

Flights mean nothing, it's bums on seats that count.... if the cost is not correct or the value of the holiday can be bettered in another country the new flight will be pulled faster than a punter in massage shop!

Met up with a friend yesterday, he is a GM of a large hotel in Hua Hin. He told me that most hotels there are way down on bookings over Xmas and New Year. They have a GM Facebook group and all discuss things about the area in general...

60% occupancy compared to 90% past year !!! Spin that one TAT

Total BS. By now, they are probably counting a transit to Chiang Mai as two arrivals. And all business visitors are also counted amongst the tourist arrivals, no doubt.

he tiny minds at the TAT and within the administration do not even see increasing numbers as a problem, not the solution. That is how blinded they are by cash, and ever increasing arrival numbers. The quality of life would be greatly diminished for every traveler who comes to Thailand. Massive number do not translate into a benefit for society. Choosing quantity of quality is a tremendous error in judgment. Thailand is only able to attract the low and lower middle class amongst the Chinese and Indian tourists. The ones with money have too many other options, and cannot get what they want in Thailand. Quality tourism is going to continue to diminish here, and is currently a pale shadow of what it used to be, and as a result millions of Thais in tourism are hurting. The hurt is going to get much worst.

One can only hope and pray it leads to the eventual ouster of the hapless army, who have the well being of the Thai people and our ex-pat community as their last priority in the world.

You are living in Pattaya, that says all. Only cheap tourists. In Chiang Mai are only a few tour buses but lots of Chinese individual travelers (families, group of friends, couples) they spend a lot of money.

Only a few buses in Chiang Mai, because it’s a dead hole. With nothing to do except breath in toxic fumes.

Lol. I guess you have never been in Chiang Mai (or you have been here but you don't like temples, friendly people, mountains, caves, waterfalls, etc.) and also I guess you are not living in greater Bangkok where the air is much more worse right now.

Greetings from my terrace where I am looking in a blue sky in this moment.

Your assumptions are rubbish. I have at times spent considerable time in Pattaya, and according to my records spent around 15,000 baht per day there including accommodation. Don't get it twisted and think everyone there walks around chasing bar girls in a wife beater. Some just go there to relax, but are comfortable spending a little more for the experience. There actually is a market for this, it isnt just all about cheap and middle ranged beer bars - there are actually some nice places to relax but you will pay.

Chiang Mai on the other hand seemed like a pretty relaxed but cheap place last time I was there - I liked it because the prices were so much lower than Bangkok and Pattaya. The people seemed to genuinely care and were genuinely interested to know me, too.

So you are one of the 3% that own 90%.  Must be good.
