All these grand EU ideas: army, one budget, EU central Finance Ministry, harmonized taxes (haha Luxembourg), etc etc are dependent on being financed by the net contributors - and they're aren't many of them. Germany pays and understandably wants the final say in many things because of it. When the others start refusing to go along with German desires, and the German economy tanks, watch the sparks start to fly! Napoleon Macron has plenty on his plate to sort out in France! EU will take 10 years to ratify any trade deals and, like Zeihan says, they'll be lining up to twist the knife. Perhaps the 5 Eyes Anglosphere can finally unite into a trading/immigration block?
