andychk
Hi all, it's not particularly clear how the Thai visa system for foreigners works, but I will apply for a 90 day non-o (marriage) and have been told that it can easily be converted to a work permit. Or is it done in a different way? Just wondering due to lack of clarity, and would appreciate some experienced explanation. Many thanks in advance... ubonjoe
You can apply for a work permit with a non-o visa or extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. A work permit is not a visa. It only allows you to legally work.
elviajero
A visa (Non O) is required to gain permission to stay in the country. A Work Permit [WP] is required to gain permission to work. In order to get a WP you need the correct type and category of visa. As you are married your Non O visa can be used to apply for the WP. If you didn’t have a Thai family you would need a Non B visa.
andychk
That's great to hear - so that means the information I have been given is correct. Thank you both very much for the clarification. Cheers
