REUTERS/Ronen Zvulun/File Photo JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday he has been given assurances by the son of Brazil's president that Brazil will follow the United States and move its embassy to Jerusalem next year. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has signaled before he intends to move his country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, but senior officials later backtracked for fear of damaging trade ties with Arab countries. Brazil did, however, open a trade mission to Israel in Jerusalem this year. Bolsonaro's son, lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro, told the new trade mission that, prior to traveling, his father, "told me that for sure, as a commitment, he's going to move the embassy to Jerusalem." He did not give a date. Netanyahu later issued a statement saying he met with Eduardo Bolsonaro, who told him they had "committed to move Brazil's embassy to Jerusalem in 2020." U.S. President Donald Trump broke global consensus by recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in late 2017 and moving the U.S. embassy there the following May. Most world powers say the city’s status should only be decided as part of a peace process with the Palestinians. That's the thing with Israel, being a lawful democracy, no men is above the law, unlike many, many other countries around the world that let their errant leaders get away with a slap on the wrist... You are a bit premature with that claim as nothing has happened yet. If he were an ordinary minister he would have been sacked already which would suggest he is somewhat above the laws applied to others.
Somtamnication
One day, the Palestinians and their neighbors will help to move that embassy out of Jerusalem. Good riddance!
Hanaguma
Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. It's only natural that embassies be located there. Kudos to Trump for having the stones to finally do the right thing and recognize thta simple fact. As for the Palestinians, they have had their chances to make peace and failed. Time for them to recognize reality and move on. There are plenty of Muslim countries in the region that could take them in and give them shelter. Much like how Israel took in Jews from across Africa and the Middle East when they were being murdered and robbed by their neighbors.

Palestine is recognized by most of the world and its international bodies.... it would have more recognition if not for the divisive states of america overtly blackmailing the United Nations to skew results in its favor..... ah america... well I suppose that doesn’t surprise... its still using the same type of international blackmail disguised as foreign policy today, when they can get away with it. Anyway... 139 countries recognize Palestine, whilst 149 recognize isreal. Ergo if your argument is valid for Palestine, it’s also valid for isreal.... and an even greater reason to not inflame international politics by moving embassies... something only done by the statistically measured worst president in history who has demonstrated a complete lack of statesmanship on the world stage. Hanaguma
Actually, not as yet. You also fail to mention that the countries that DON'T recognize "Palestine" are, well, all the democracies in the world basically- Europe, North America, Australia\New Zealand, etc. And similarly, the ones who don't recognize Israel are all the kleptocracies and dictatorships. It may be a state some day, if it stops behaving badly.

Should I have?... anyway, one might also point out that the delineation is along religious lines moreso than on political grounds, which is surely worth mentioning if your going to divide the world into different camps.... but that’s something that you failed to mention. these countries that recognize either party are UN member states at day’s end, regardless of their political or religious persuasion. toast1
Funny eh? Next door in Syria millions have been killed, 4 million made refugees - not one cares. Tens of thousands killed in Iran. War and death across the Middle East no one cares. But when the only Jewish country is mentioned, TV comments go nuts. I'm getting the impression its the 'Jewish' part of this equation that's the issue.
