bluesofa
Is there any medical evidence to support these two ‘traditional’ Thai practices? After an accident when there’s bruising to the body: Lying on a slatted framework above ground height and lighting a charcoal fire in a ceramic pot underneath, so the heat (and some leaves/herbs around the pot) permeate upwards and are ‘absorbed’ by the body to bring out the bruising faster, and also to ‘prevent’ blood clots. When having a cold or a temperature, almost any ailment: Avoiding drinking cold water, drink only warm, as cold water will prevent recovery. As I kid I remember having my tonsils removed in hospital, and afterwards being given ice cream to reduce the swelling in my throat. My Thai wife thought it was incredible a hospital be so irresponsible to do that!
Farma
The Public Health Ministry has a traditional medicine department actively promoting traditional medicines. I understand these herbal medicines are being produced by some hospitals for distribution around the country. I haven't tried them so can't comment on any benefits. kokesaat
All the Thais we know won't drink cold, certainly not iced, liquids when they are ill. Ice cream? Not a chance.
