Young American Moving To Udon?

Phuket Mafia

Recommended Posts

I know it was recently asked about life in Udon Thani.

However, I just quit my job in Phuket and am looking to relocate to a quieter less tourist heavy area. I’ve stopped in Udon before on a visa run to Laos and thought it was really nice ( felt like a mini bkk).

Minimal amounts of tourists, no Chinese or Russians everywhere just a bunch of old white dudes and they didn’t bother me. I guess how would a guy in his early 20’s do in Udon. Are there other young NES around? Any jobs up there for foreigners?

thanks.

That’s what I’m afraid of! However, I just need a quiet cheap place to wrap up my degree (no distractions). I do all my university classes online.

Jomtien is quite and cheap and if you want to let your hair down occasionally your a 20 minute baht bus to Pattaya or just stay in jomtien, great markets and rent can be found cheap especially way down the beach . A much better choice IMO for a young guy

I’ve just heard it’s basically a seedy place and has a bit of a bad reputation.

Probably from people that have never been there also?

There are for sure a few areas in Pattaya that are "seedy" simple solution - don't go to them, I lived in Pattaya for 15 years and managed to avoid them - most of the time

I live in Udon now, outside of town, same as when I lived in Pattaya, I lived outside of town, lot more choices in Pattaya for sure, the summers in Udon can be miserable and the air quality downtown isn't great! For food and shopping there is no comparison between Pattaya and Udon, Pattaya wins hands down! If you wont to exist on poor quality street food Udon is probably slightly cheaper, though not much, Pattaya has a huge choice of foods at reasonable prices.

Good luck.

Pattaya is a total dump, Indians, Chinese , sex tourists. Dirty,

low life's staring into the sky 24/7, if you're ever feeling down in the dumps, go to pattaya, walk around, you'll feel like a million bucks in no time. Simply a hell hole.

I’ve been to Khon Kaen as well but didn’t like how open everything felt... at least around the cinema/shopping mall. Udon Thani had this closed off feeling. It was a while ago so maybe I’m misremembering or I’m just weird.

Laos felt like a mini BKK, what a joke. BKK is a big city with all the big city things. Good hospitals, shopping malls, infrastructure, ...

Laos has none of it.

You don't know what you are talking about, so in your words one can't go to Hamburg,Rotterdam,London either. Just don't go in to the red light districts. There is nice places outside the city.

Ha Ha. And you live in Phuket! Wherever you go I suggest you be more circumspect with your casual ageist bigotry. And less credulous. BTW In what country or area of work is an online degree considered valid?

You misread. Udon felt like a mini bkk not Laos. Just my opinion certainly not a joke.

its Udon who comes to him

if you see what i mean ????

Sure but most of the Udoners in Pattaya would be older than he is.

You must live in the stone age online education has exploded the last few years from just about all educational institutions including most major universities. As more people work more hours in the digital world it is a necessity.

Yeah exactly! It’s a regionally accredited school. Perfectly legit.

A digital education nomad.

Go to Udon you will love it.

That’s got a nice ring to it. ????

I think I’ll give it a try. Air Asia has non stop one way tickets for 1,000 in early January. If I don’t like it and there’s not enough young folks a quick bus down to Khon Kaen shouldn’t be a problem. Just sucks transporting all my stuff.

It just really depends on YOUR needs, wants and desires.

I lived in Phuket for 10 years and now live in Khon Kaen for 2 years. Big difference-BIG!!

Remember, what one person loves, another person might hate.

Good luck and hope you enjoy whatever you do!
