expatinbangkok
Hi, My wife holds a burmese passport and we paid the 'unofficial fees' in Yangon to be given a marriage certificate. Then I was able to get our child a UK passport. She was told however (by the 'pooyai' of her area) that she wouldn't be able to get a Burmese birth certificate or passport, for having had a child with a foreigner. The child was born in Thailand and so far we have a Thai birth certificate. Has anyone managed to pay in Yangon to get a birth certificate / passport sorted out? Thanks
dimitriv
To my knowledge you can never have more than 1 birth certificate. There is also no reason for that. You can have the Thai birth certificate legalized, translated etc for use in other countries.
sanmyintmaung
As a first step for obtaining passport, your wife need to use your child Thai birth certificate to register with the Myanmar Embassy or Consulate in Bangkok within one year from the date of birth.
