NoshowJones
Anyone know if hotels around Chumpae, Khon Kaen are busy on the week ends, say Saturday and Sundays? Are there always rooms available around the middle of January?
KhunBENQ
Oho The newly (re)built "Cheewin" as well as the somewhat worn out "Major Grand" seem to be booked on certain weekends in January. Best try a booking site (booking.com) for your dates. Cheewin would be my suggestion. There is a newly built "Tummy House" which is fairly central but surprisingly expensive. Apart form that countless apartment style places. Do you have transport/car? For obvious reasons I can't give you own experience.
KhunBENQ
I stumbled upon this thread by chance. I suggest you report to mods and ask to amend the title with "Chumphae" and also consider to ask in the Isaan forum for more response?
Tropicalevo
Chinese New Year 24 - 26/1. That may have an impact on hotel bookings.
KhunBENQ
My mistake: Tummy House is about 500 Baht. Acceptable.

I will be on a motorcycle road trip, so cannot be sure exactly where I will spend the nights, I usually pay around 500 Bt for a hotel room. Sorry, I must have missed something, but I do not understand your last sentence.

I know Chumphae, is it near the big supermarket? Can't remember whether it is Lotus or Big C.

Phuket Mafia
I just stayed at the Major Grand not too long ago and the rooms were quite dated with bugs all over my bed. I asked to change rooms but all they had was a twin room despite me being the only guest as far as I know. The pool was nice but It felt eerie walking through the hotel for some reason... reminded me of the shining.

You probably mean the "Major Grand" almost opposite Lotus. A friend living in town tells me that there are plenty of apartment style accommodations available (not necessarily found in the internet). Can share your observations. That's why I was astonished that it is shown as booked at any time. The new Cheewin is much better.
