Poor refuse collector donates his life savings to the temple before dying

Thai caption: Last merit making before dying

Relatives of a poor refuse collector said on Facebook that he had donated his life savings to a temple before he died.

"Taa Toi" (grandfather Toi) was pictured shirtless outside a 7-Eleven in Ban Mee and was said by his relatives to be a great man with a wonderful heart despite being poor.

Apart from collecting trash he was known as a rag and bone man.

He left his collection of coins to a temple.

There was a mountain of money for the monks to count.

Up to him i suppose but I find this very sad

It's not as it Thai temples and their orange clothed inhabitants need or deserve it

Yes temples n monks dont need and they never asked for it. This man is clearly a good buddhist trying his best to gain as much merit as possible in this life. Om Mani Pedme Hung. Hope he is in western paradise now and no more suffering for him anymore

Simple do the math!  he is wearing rags barely have anything to eat so he is as thin to his bones.????

The history of the term Rag and Bone Man that was used in the UK when I was young can be found here.

The BBC TV show, Steptoe and Son was a pretty good take off of the Rag'n Bone Man.
