Dairy farmers from Muak Lek district, in Thailand’s central province of Saraburi, are due to petition Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Agriculture Minister Chalermchai Sri-on today to seek urgent help after more than 70 dairy cows have died from, and over 1,700 others have become infected with suspected foot and mouth disease.

Farmers in Tambon Lamphaya Klang, where most of the dairy cows were reported to have become infected, told Thai PBS reporters that the animals started to show symptoms of the highly infectious disease around January 5th and several animals have already died.

Ms. Chatcharee Niyamosot, a veterinarian at the provincial veterinary office, disclosed that, so far, theoutbreak has been confined in 108 of about 2,300 dairy farms in Saraburi province, adding that the situation has improved, with over 1,000 sick cattle having recovered after treatment.

No use talking about it.Does Thailand have a national emergency plan for such outbreaks. All infected cattle should be euthanased all other life stock quarantined. All infected properties to be sterilised and quarantined. No movement of livestock in or out out the Provence.Personal Hygiene implemented especially on feet and footwear. The list goes on treatment of animals does not guarantee a cure or a stop of the spread. It won't stop with just dairy cattle. All cloven foot animals can be infected.Real action is required.

There was a  reported outbreak in Khon Kaen Province about 1 or 2 Months ago, and after the initial flurry of reports, all went quiet.

All the Markets were closed during November to stop the spread of this highly contagious disease.

At that time, several posters on this Forum said that the contagion plans were no where near good enough, and now there appears to be a " New " outbreak in another Province.

I would suspect that there are more cases out there that have not been notified, as this is obviously the same outbreak as the initial one.

The Authorities have shown that they are incapable of handling such a viralant Disease, and should now seek outside assistance.
