Popular Post webfact
Action needed now to save "filthy, dangerous, rip-off, vice ridden" Pattaya, says watchdog File photo Pattaya Watchdog have slammed the resort for doing nothing to improve its infrastructure and image. They said it may already be too late to save Pattaya but action is needed now. They published a huge list of reasons why tourists are not going to Pattaya any more. Reasons why in these transparent, social media times savvy tourists are choosing to go elsewhere for beach holidays like Cambodia and Vietnam, and even Bali. It is not all about price, they said on Facebook, comparing Pattaya to having a coffee at Starbucks. Even if it is more expensive than the competition people might still come if they like the quality, flavor, cleanliness and atmosphere of Starbucks. They then went on to list a litany of problems that have built up in Pattaya over the years; problems that are stopping repeat visits, they said. The message was clear: Pattaya was no Starbucks. Pulling no punches they itemised the following: Rip offs for transport Dirty beaches Prostitutes and scary vagrants loitering about everywhere Terrible traffic including tour buses creating danger entering narrow sois Litter everywhere since widespread refuse collection disputes in 2016 - 2017 Holes in uneven sidewalks littered with bricks and breeze blocks - all making tourist injuries common CCTV that doesn't work making crime solving problematical A useless transport system including baht buses that rip people off They said Pattaya was inconvenient. Not nearly enough had been spent on good public utilities - and when money was spent it was done on the cheap. It had been known for being cheap but what if other, better places were cheaper, what then? Their opinion piece said that action was needed NOW to save Pattaya. They admitted it may already be too late to save Pattaya. But everyone must at least try and come together in a spirit of cooperation to solve problems. Popular Post Bassosa
I sense something is changing in Thailand....an awareness that "we" can't carry on like this any longer. But then again, Thais are extremely resilient to change and inconvenient truths. Let's wait and see. Popular Post Matzzon
Just the thought of that they actually let this be, grow and are doing this to inflict pain and suffering on the tourist industry is unfathomable. However, I can sometimes understand the single Thai incidents and many individual Thai citizens actions. That based on the fact of Pattaya as a magnet for criminality and slime of the earth extremely rotten and unwanted foreigner the city seem to attract. If this comment was only based on them, then they could let Pattaya rot and build an unbreakable dome over the city. Ok, as a good thing. I also personally know a bunch of good guys that have settled down in Pattaya, so that does not go for them or anybody else that knows how to behave. it´s just that the city unfortunately seems to attract to much of the wrong people. There is a (shrinking) market for sleazy, filthy seaside resorts but Pattaya has unwillingly priced itself out of that market due to the strong baht. The envisioned transition to a respectable family resort town has so far been unconvincing. You would need a clean(ish) beach for that to eventuate, and then deal with the raft of other issues.

Popular Post Kemp87
Tourist numbers aren’t down because of how Pattaya is! Pattaya’s always been rough round the edges, for some people the chaos is part of the lure! It’s performed well in the past when it was rougher! Numbers are down because of rising costs! Same as Phuket! That “useless transport system” including Those “rip off” 10 baht baht buses that take you everywhere are so awful ???? get a grip!! 13

The Lord High Panjandrum will decide this on a case-by-case basis, each will get a private audience. (*wink*) Perhaps some sort of nationalist movement might rise up, come to the conclusion that the country's biggest problem is foreigners (a pretty common thing worldwide), then bring their bottle of petrol (remember that one from 10 years ago?) and torch the place. That'll change things.

You shall not come here and tell me what should have been standing in my post. Write you own one and design it like you want it to be. But ok, let´s go to work: No 1: Don´t know. It can´t be the this people. They are everywhere, but it doesn´t look like this dump in other places. However, there are almost more foreigners in Pattaya than Thais, so I guess it´s the foreigner that created this mess. Time to clean it up! No 2: Out of the info above you already know that. The foreign criminal elements that since decades grown into the core of the city like an terminal disease.
