and it's free. You really see a wannbe rapist saving his money till the weekend ?

Pretty much every prostitute that has been working for a while has been raped by a "client" at some point...

It's not rape when it's a prostitute. It's called shoplifting.

It certainly is still rape, just as with any other woman, and it’s one thing that legalized sex work can help prevent.

However, I do remember a real case in Australia where a man was a regular client of a lady, who trusted him so much that he used to pay by leaving the money in an envelope that she’d open after he’d left. One time he just left a card with a picture of a flower in the envelope with no money. He was actually convicted of rape, despite it being the equivalent of theft.

It was no different to the old joke - I was standing in a queue at a bank, and noticed an attractive young lady depositing a large amount of cash. The teller carefully examined one of the $100 notes, and placed it under a UV light. I’m sorry to have to tell you, Madam, but this banknote appears to be a forgery. Her face became ashen - My God, she gasped, I’ve been raped again!

They may be illegal, but the biggest "karaoke with options" establishment in Chiang Mai is owned by a VERY senior policeman.

It's not prostitution, it's PR, a big difference.
And by the way, in almost all villages and towns in Thailand you will find at least one caraoke which, is nothing more than a PR hangout!????

What will be this year's April 1st joke?

- Will it be T.A.T. with a new prognose with 50 million visitors?

- Another organisation will legalise gambling and Pattaya will have Thailand's first legal casino opening on Feb 29, 2021??
- Do you have a good joke? Let us know....

Are there stats from elsewhere to suggest legalising brothels affects rape significantly? My thought is that there are several, perhaps many, reasons for rape none of which would be deterred by brothels being legal. Of the more serious crimes, 'serial' rapists/murderers, paedophiles, robberies that become violent and/or opportunity to rape and the psycho who needs mental treatment. Then there is rape of family by family and I'm sure the list could be extended.

Legalising brothels would only help the possible frustrated chap who can't 'get any' but even here price might be prohibitive. I have never used prostitution so I'm ignorant of details but if a brothels are regulated surely that has a cost attached to it. I thought that legalising brothels was an attempt to reduce employee danger (of say robbery etc.) and perhaps have some control over sexual related illness.

As I say, I'm ignorant on this one so I could be totally wrong.

Thai Civilized party leader, and member of the House committee studying ways to reduce rape and other sexual violations, Mongkolkit Suksintharanont, has proposed that Thailand should permit regulated and licenced brothels and sex toy shops as a way to address the problem.

They already exist... albeit operating under a blind eye.
People who wish to find consensual sex can easily find the establishments and willing girls to oblige them for an agreed payment.

Rapists will always be rapists, perverts will always be perverted, they fall into different categories, the opportunist who takes advantage of a situation, the serial rapist who gets pleasure from forced sex, the mentally unbalanced person or the just plain skint person who has no money to pay for the services!

Sex toy shops have nothing to do with sex crimes and should have been legalized decades ago -

prostitution is part and parcel of Thai society- Thai men creates this societal structure centuries ago- just legalize it but sure it won’t happen

I saw a house in Chiang Mai where hundreds of used condoms were scattered all over the property, Thai men visited the house frequently.

Q. Will they now need a license and have to pay tax?

2. Will the girls need medical certificates and use approved condoms?

This sort of place and other styles or versions of it are all over LOS.

They do not prevent rape, or jealous boyfriends who have 5 mia nois from murdering .

How does legitimizing an industry that already exists and defines Thailand, reduce rape?

Has he actually done research to realize Thailand IS a giant brothel.

It couldn't become more brothelized...and yet rape happens.

Explain that one, Mong.

Thai men can not afford to pay, and mum will not pay eiver.

Sex, greed, money and corruption are what drives the train here. All are joined and benefit the powerful. It will be a decades long battle once someone is elected, who has the political will and backing to move forward. Singapore, while not perfect,  did it. It can be done here.

Rape has nothing to do with procreation it's about power and forcing a person to submit

Rape has little to do with procreation, yes, but a lot to do with satisfying sexual urges. Feminists want you to believe it's all about power, but that's simply not true. Research shows that legalising prostitution reduces rates of sexual assault against women. Read this paper, for example: https://pubs.aeaweb.org/doi/pdfplus/10.1257/pol.20150299 In this case, sexual assault rates dropped by 30-40%.

Also, if you are going to stand by your assertion that rape is only about power, you need to explain why the vast majority of rape victims are under the age of 35 at the time of the assault (most are between 18-35). If it was simply about power/submission, women in their 40s and 50s should also be victimised at a similar rate.

The problem is the brothels aren't free, therefore it will not solve the problem of rape. Thailand is already a brothel.

Sexworkers work for their money. So do all workers, including sexworkers' customers. If you call sexwork prostitution then you might as well call all labour prostitution, and you might as well call the West a big brothel.
